The Business Controls Manager leads all phases of developing, implementing, documenting, and testing business controls. This role ensures reporting meets Provision 29 of the Corporate Governance Code 2024. The role sits within Finance and works closely with governance, risk and controls collaborators to support the development of a robust internal control framework and prepare the organisation for external disclosure requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the documentation, assessment and evidencing of material controls required under Provision 29, ensuring readiness for testing and external reporting.
- Coordinate the building, implementation and continuous improvement of the company’s internal control system across the business.
- Support the development, review and implementation of financial policies including the financial control manual.
- Maintain and update governance and controls documentation including policies, procedures and manuals.
- Lead and coordinate control testing cycles, including test planning, execution and assurance of evidence quality.
- Support risk management activities to enhance the risk framework, reporting and adoption across the organisation.
- Lead and deliver actions arising from governance workstreams.
- Deliver training to senior leadership and the wider business to develop understanding and ownership of controls and risk.
- Monitor emerging regulatory, reporting and governance requirements and support business response to new obligations.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
Skills:
- Strong understanding of business controls and control frameworks.
- Knowledge of risk management and mitigation principles.
- Experience in developing and testing controls.
- Ability to build positive relationships with collaborators at all levels.
- Effective communication and collaborative working style.
Knowledge:
- Understanding of governance, risk and compliance frameworks.
- Awareness of regulatory and reporting requirements, including Corporate Governance Code expectations.
Expertise and Experience:
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in a similar role.
- Professional qualification in accountancy, compliance, risk management, or a related discipline.
- Controls or risk professional qualification desirable.
