As a Buyer at BSM, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and cost-effective procurement of stores, spare parts, and technical equipment essential to vessel operations. This role plays a strategic part in connecting ship and shore by managing supplier relationships, coordinating logistics, and supporting operational needs to maintain seamless vessel performance and supply chain integrity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Purchasing management of vessel requirements including stores, spare parts, and technical equipment based on requisitions and voyage needs

  • Vendor negotiation with contracted and non-contracted suppliers to optimize costs and ensure compliance with agreements

  • Delivery planning of goods to vessels in the most cost-effective manner, monitoring pending requirements and back orders

  • Progress reporting to vessels and superintendents on purchase status, requisition changes, and delivery schedules

  • Supplier performance feedback to improve the quality of goods and services provided

  • Category management by maintaining updated item lists based on vessel requests and usage frequency

  • Logistics issue resolution related to quality, quantity, condition, or delivery discrepancies in coordination with stakeholders

  • Invoice verification against purchasing and delivery documentation, including preparation of prepayment vouchers when applicable

  • System utilization of relevant modules to support technical superintendents and vessels, providing feedback for improvements

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Business or Accounting, or equivalent

  • 4–6 years’ experience in purchasing or supply chain management, preferably within the shipping industry

Skills & Competencies

  • Technical knowledge of vessels’ operational needs and supplier capabilities

  • Communication skills with strong negotiation ability

  • Organisational skills and project management expertise

  • Fluency in English with strong PC literacy
