JOB TITLE: CAMP CRAVE- Program Leader
NATURE OF WORK:
Nome Community Center is seeking an enthusiastic, youth focused Program Leader to oversee the planning, coordination and execution of Camp Crave, a 4-day camp that focuses on healthy living choices.There are three sessions, divided by ages that focus on topics that are covered in the categories of nutrition, tobacco prevention, behavioral health, alcohol awareness, cultural values, and environmental.CRAVE stands for Culture, Recreation, Active, Values, and Education. The ideal candidate is highly organized, proactive, and passionate about providing meaningful camp experiences for participants.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Pre-Camp planning and coordination
- Finalize camp session dates and reserve necessary accommodations
- Identify and coordinate volunteers with the CAMP department and AK Camps
- Update camper applications and create/distribute promotional flyers
- Application processing
- Design and order camp sweatshirts
- Distribute sponsorship and donation requests to community supporters
- Order supplies, identify equipment needs and Family BBQ planning
- Conduct staff and volunteer training
- Oversee each camp session
- Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- Must demonstrate and display an understanding and sensitivity to serving a culturally diverse and/or special needs population
- Must be able to pass a state and federal background check
- Must have a valid Alaska Driver’s License with a clean driving record
- Must have experience working with children who may have experienced emotional and physical trauma
ADDITIONAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Lift up to 50 pounds
- Willingness to hike, paddle board, swim, fish, participate in group/campfire games, etc.
- Supervise and participate in recreational and leisure activities
- Engage in physical exercise with youth such as running, walking, hiking, etc.
- Demonstrate the ability to perform CPR and First Aid and other physical crisis interventions, as approved by the agency
