This role plays a key part in ensuring the accuracy, compliance, and quality of hospital outpatient coding and charge capture processes within a healthcare environment. The Coding Quality Associate Analyst conducts detailed documentation and coding reviews across multiple classification systems, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and internal coding policies. The position also focuses on identifying documentation gaps, improving coding accuracy, and supporting education for coding staff. Working closely with coding leadership, this role helps strengthen operational consistency and revenue integrity while maintaining high standards of compliance. It is well-suited for a detail-oriented coding professional who enjoys analytical review work combined with mentorship and training responsibilities. Accountabilities:

  • Perform detailed coding and documentation reviews for hospital outpatient records, ensuring compliance with APC, ICD-9-CM, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, and CPT coding standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify coding inaccuracies, documentation gaps, and charge capture issues, and provide recommendations to improve accuracy and compliance.
  • Support coding education efforts by mentoring, training, and providing feedback to outpatient coding staff to improve overall coding quality.
  • Collaborate with coding managers and supervisors to support workflow improvements, consistency, and adherence to coding quality review policies.
  • Contribute to ongoing audits and quality improvement initiatives aimed at strengthening documentation practices and revenue integrity.
  • Assist in maintaining coding compliance with federal, state, and organizational standards while supporting continuous learning within the coding team.
  • Requirements:

    • Associate’s degree in healthcare, health information management, or a related business field with 3+ years of coding experience, OR Bachelor’s degree with 2+ years of coding experience.
    • Active certification such as RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC-H, or CPC required.
    • Strong knowledge of hospital outpatient coding systems including CPT, HCPCS, ICD-9-CM, and ICD-10-CM.
    • Experience performing coding audits, documentation reviews, or quality assurance activities in a healthcare setting.
    • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to interpret complex clinical documentation and apply coding guidelines accurately.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to train and mentor coding staff effectively.
    • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating with cross-functional coding leadership.
