Position Title:  Construction Manager II (Heavy Travel)

Position Location:  Location varies by assignment. 75–100% travel across the U.S. unless assigned to an extended project. Must be located near a major US airport.

Job Summary

The Construction Manager II (CMII) acts as the contractor and/or owner’s representative throughout all phases of a construction project, ensuring that scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety, and compliance objectives are met. This role integrates Owner’s Representative and Construction Management responsibilities, coordinating architects, engineers, contractors, suppliers, and operations stakeholders. The CMII manages projects of complex scope in mission-critical environments, driving the process from pre-construction through turnover and closeout, while providing structured reporting, risk management, and decision support.

The CMII will receive limited directions on day-to-day work and general instructions on new projects, tasks or assignments. Will execute and assist team leadership on projects, tasks or assignments of complex scope. Will work independently or under limited supervision.

The CMII will communicate and operate in line with organizational and client goals and values, as well as departmental objectives.

Essential Functions

Project Leadership & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Administer contracts and lead project team meetings.
  • Drive issue closure with subject matter experts and project partners.
  • Manage project progression from design through as-built, coordinating, reviewing, and tracking deliverables.
  • Advocate for budget, schedule, and contract oversight, serving as the single point of coordination for owner requirements and program standards.
  • Monitor budget and schedule drivers, surface scope/cost impacts, and recommend mitigation and change control paths.
  • Support contract administration and compliance; participate in bid/evaluation activities and preconstruction planning.

Construction Administration & Field Oversight

  • Oversee construction administration, tracking submittals and RFI responses.
  • Maintain a proactive issues/risk log; verify design intent and quality expectations.
  • Ensure timely completion of closeout documents and requirements.
  • Provide daily/weekly oversight of trades to verify installations meet drawings, specifications, codes, and owner requirements.
  • Enforce coordination plans and maintainability standards.

Reporting, Communications & Client Experience

  • Provide concise, regular leadership updates on progress, blockers, risks, and priorities.
  • Curate owner-facing narratives, visuals, and KPIs leveraging the reporting structure (schedule, cost, RFIs, issues, photos).
  • Maintain and grow client relationships; ensure client satisfaction through clear, timely, and professional communications.

Business Development & Program Support

  • Assist with proposals and presentations; identify and develop follow-on opportunities as a trusted extension of the client team.

Technology, Digital Tools & AI-Enabled Efficiency

  • Leverage AI-enabled and digital tools to enhance efficiency, reduce manual effort, and support consistent, high-quality work output.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes and demonstrate a continuous learning mindset, seeking out new technologies, skills, and methods that elevate individual and team performance.
  • Adapt to emerging technologies and evolving digital workflows, actively supporting the integration and adoption of innovative tools across the organization.

Completion of Assigned Tasks and Deliverables on Time and on Budget

Position Requirements (intermediate level for all the following)

  • Strong working knowledge of commissioning processes for electrical, mechanical, and controls systems in mission-critical environments.
  • Knowledge of industry trends, project management and construction procedures and best practices.
  • ​Knowledge of materials, methods and the tools involved in the construction of mission critical, commercial buildings or other structures.
  • Knowledge of the importance of the Method of Procedure (MOP) process and work notifications.
  • Skilled in clear, concise communication with both technical and non-technical audiences, with the ability to represent the owner directly with contractors and clients.
  • Skilled in managing schedule inputs and enforcing commissioning standards across multiple stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.
  • Skilled at using construction management software such as Procore.
  • Skilled in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Skilled at using MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams), along with exceptional organizational skills for file management.
  • Ability to leverage AI and emerging technologies to streamline workflows, optimize operational processes, and contribute to company-wide innovation
  • Ability to follow company and site safety requirements.
  • Ability to analyze and prepare documents, reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently with moderate supervision.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet close deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with onsite and remote team members.
  • Ability to analyze complex information and develop plans to address identified issues.

  • Frequently required to remain in a stationary position
  • Frequently moving through data center and outdoor environments (heat, cold, precipitation), including navigating tight spaces, accessing areas via stairs or ladders, and occasionally working in overhead or under-equipment positions.
  • On occasion the employee may move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
