Position Hours

8:00 am to 5:30 pm, Monday through Thursday and 8:00 am to 12:00 pm on Friday


Minimum Job Duties

Performs difficult, skilled work, supervising and participating in the work of a maintenance, repair and /or construction crew.


  • Responsible for supervising and participating in the work of a maintenance, repair or construction crew or specialized crew, including the maintenance and preparation of reports and records.
  • Assigns and supervises the work of semiskilled and/or skilled workers and equipment operations in the repair, maintenance or construction of utility lines and facilities.
  • Performs or assists in performing more difficult repair and construction tasks.
  • Inspects work in progress to assure conformance with instructions.
  • Responds to citizen inquiries and complaints.
  • Evaluates work performance of employees.
  • Helps establish work priorities; makes and adjusts work assignments.
  • Inspects work in process to assure conformance with instructions.
  • Operates a variety of motorized equipment at job sites.
  • Inspects pump stations; locates utility lines; maintains time and material records.
  • Prepares simple work reports.
  • Trains and instructs subordinates.
  • Required to work overtime and/or be on call.
  • Performs related tasks, as required.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Must possesses a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Considerable experience in skilled maintenance repair or construction work related to utility systems, including some team lead/supervisory experience.
  • Possession of an appropriate drivers’ license valid in the State of South Carolina.
  • Must have knowledge and understanding of appropriate safety procedures and be able to respond in emergency situations.
  • Ability to operate excavation and heavy equipment.
  • Above average reading, writing and mathematics skills.
  • Ability to distinguish colors.
  • Professional demeanor and good communication skills with the ability to work well with others in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills (record keeping, time management, follow up, etc.).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and sense of urgency, ability to prioritize with an emphasis on quality and accuracy of work.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills required.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and deal with interruptions while meeting timely deadlines.


Beneficial Skills & Experience

  • Ability to read blueprints, drawings, sketches and schematics.
  • Certifications and license as follows:
    • Wastewater Collection: B license (WEASC VCC)
    • Water Distribution: B license (SCLLR)
    • Water Treatment: D license (SCLLR)
