About this role

Summary:

The Director of Worship provides spiritual, theological, and creative leadership for Storyline Worship, cultivating Sunday gatherings that are theologically serious, aesthetically excellent, and congregationally formative. This role exists to help our church proclaim and respond to the gospel through Scripture-shaped worship that leads people to know Jesus and love all people.

Vision & Responsibilities:

Shape the Sunday Gathering

We take our gatherings very seriously because they are our greatest opportunity to display, sing, preach, and pray the good news of the gospel. When we gather, we loudly rehearse the good news of the gospel, not as a performance but as a family of faith that desires to encourage one another in it. We believe doctrine drives doxology. Which means our songs need to carry weight. They need to be singable by a grandmother, a college student, and a kid in the third row who has just begun to believe. They need melodies that serve the congregation and form us into God’s family.

  • Theologically Serious. Aesthetically Excellent. Congregationally Formed.
  • Songs rooted in Scripture and formed by the arc of the gospel. God is great; we are sinners; Jesus saves us; Jesus sends us.
  • Liturgy that is thoughtful but unnoticed. It is gentle in the way it shapes and forms us. Intentionally form every aspect of that gathering to make disciples.

The Next Generation: Storyline Residency

We want to shape the next generation of worship ministers and send them to serve the church. Through our residency program, Storyline will invest in emerging leaders by forming their theology, developing their gifts, and equipping them to lead the church with wisdom, humility, and faithfulness. The greatest impact of Storyline Worship may not happen on a Sunday morning, but in the moments where future ministers are being shaped, equipped, and sent.

  • Develop worship residents each year (3-5) who are deeply embedded in the life of Storyline Staff.
  • Equip worship residents to thoughtfully design and lead liturgies that form the church through Scripture, prayer, song, and the gospel.
  • Form worship leaders who can faithfully lead congregations with theological depth, pastoral wisdom, and musical excellence.

Storyline Family of Churches

God has given Storyline a vision to plant and strengthen healthy churches in the Storyline Family of Churches. The Director of Worship will help cultivate a philosophy of worship that can serve & shape the family. While each church is autonomous, this role provides mentorship, encouragement, and resources that strengthen worship leaders and foster relational cooperation across our family of churches.

  • A desire to coach, encourage, and invest in worship leaders across the Storyline Family of Churches to create a Christ-centered culture.
  • Create and steward resources that strengthen local churches and support healthy worship ministries.

Songs for the Church

We want Storyline to contribute to writing gospel-rich music for the Church out of what God is doing here in Arvada. We will primarily write for the discipleship & expression of worship for our church and pray that the Lord will use it to bless the broader church.

  • Champion a culture of songwriting that flows from the life and worship of Storyline Church.
  • Write, develop, and steward original songs that help our congregation sing the truths of the gospel.
  • Encourage songs that disciple both adults and children, helping pass the gospel from one generation to the next.
