Role Summary
As a Dozer Operator, you play a key role in supporting underground utility projects by maintaining smooth site conditions, managing material movement, and building access roads to keep production moving safely and efficiently.
In this role you will be responsible for the following:
- Equipment Operation – Operate the dozer safely and efficiently in support of site grading, backfill, and material handling. Maintain smooth control in varied terrain and around active crews.
- Grade Reading & Elevation Control – Accurately interpret grade stakes and site plans when building subgrades and adjusting for cut/fill. Maintain correct slope and elevation targets.
- Site Grading – Maintain a smooth, level work site and keep dozer in motion to support continuous and efficient crew operations.
- Lift Placement and Compaction Prep – Spread and level material in consistent lifts to support proper compaction.
- Material & Dirt Management – Manage on-site material movement, spreading, and trimming. Clear excess piles and maintain clean, safe work zones.
- Access Roads – Build and maintain clean, accessible travel roads for crew and equipment.
- Moisture Control – Windrow and aerate material for drying and prepare work areas ahead of weather.
- Use of Attachments – Operate rippers and other dozer attachments effectively.
- GPS Operation – Utilize GPS-equipped dozers to enhance grading precision; familiarity with GPS systems is an asset.
- Communication & Coordination – Use clear hand signals, radios, or verbal instructions to coordinate with crew. Adjust movements based on trench sequencing and foreman direction.
- Site Safety & Compliance – Follow Alberta OHS, ground disturbance rules, and GS Construction safety protocols. Maintain a clean and organized worksite. Participate in daily hazard assessments and report any unsafe conditions or equipment defects immediately.
- Equipment Care & Maintenance – Perform daily checks on fluids, hoses, and fittings. Grease, refuel, and clean equipment as needed to maintain safe operation.
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of dozer experience in civil, water, or sewer construction.
- Skilled in grading, subgrade preparation, and dirt/material handling.
- Proficient with dozer attachments, including rippers; GPS experience is an asset.
- Knowledge of equipment inspections and routine maintenance procedures.
- Ability to interpret grade stakes and follow elevation requirements.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driving record; safety certifications are an asset.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- This is a physically active, outdoor role. You'll be working in all kinds of weather.
- You’ll need to be comfortable lifting up to 50 lbs and handling physically demanding tasks throughout the day.
- Work takes place on active construction sites with heavy equipment, uneven terrain, and live underground utilities.
