Overview
The Facilities Team ensures that the Facility and Equipment are in safe working condition, the shop is clean, materials are received, labeled, and stored correctly, tools and supplies are accounted for. This role carries direct responsibility for the mechanical upkeep of our fabrication equipment and building systems, keeping production running without interruption.

Primary Responsibilities
Facility Operations
- Open/Close Shop for Workday
- Maintain a Clean Shop, Inside and Out
- Clear Garbage, Woodbin, and Recycling
- On Call for Security Questions, Locking Up, etc.
- Assisting with Prep for Client Visits
- Prepping Equipment and Workspaces for Crews
- Contribute to Positive Morale in the Shop
- Ensure Health and Safety Regulations are Met
- Serve as Eyes and Ears on the Shop Floor
- Keep Up-To-Date Records, Logs, and Maintenance Schedules
- Willing to Work on a Flexible Schedule as Needed
Materials & Inventory
- Acquire, Deliver, and Store Materials
- Maintain Inventory
- Check Out Tools from Tool Library to Other Staff
- Proper Haz-Mat Disposal, Waste Removal, and Dump Runs
- Make Runs, Deliveries, and Purchases
Equipment & Machine Maintenance
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance on fabrication equipment including CNC routers, table saws, band saws, planers, jointers, welding machines, plasma cutters, grinders, and finishing equipment
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical failures on shop machinery; coordinate or execute repairs to minimize production downtime
- Maintain lubrication schedules, belt and blade replacements, calibration checks, and general mechanical upkeep across the wood, metal, and finishing departments
- Inspect and maintain dust collection systems, compressed air lines, and spray booth equipment
- Perform basic electrical, plumbing, and HVAC maintenance for the facility; escalate to licensed trades as appropriate
- Maintain the forklift and other heavy equipment in safe operating condition; coordinate scheduled service
- Keep detailed maintenance logs for all equipment and flag recurring issues for review
- Proactively identify wear, damage, or safety concerns before they become failures
Fabrication Support
- Forklift and Other Heavy Equipment Operation
- Assist with Installs and Fabrication as Needed
Essential Skills and Experience
- At least 3 years experience in a Facilities, Maintenance, or Shop Tech position — preferably in fabrication, scenic production, or industrial manufacturing
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude: ability to diagnose, repair, and maintain a wide range of production machinery and building systems
- Hands-on experience with CNC equipment maintenance, woodworking machinery, and/or metal fabrication equipment strongly preferred
- Basic Electrical, Plumbing, and HVAC skills; comfortable working within an industrial facility
- Ability to operate Forklift, 24' Box Truck, and various other equipment as needed
- Clear CA DMV License / Insurable for Driving
- Proficient knowledge of wood, steel, and acrylic fabrication techniques and tools
- Comprehensive understanding of safety issues relating to the workplace, including PPE requirements and hazmat protocols
- Well-developed interpersonal skills; ability to motivate and work well with a team
- Takes responsibility for mistakes, fixes them, and learns
- Knowledge of commercial construction schedules, procedures, and protocols
- Up-to-date smartphone and computer skills for Slack, GSuite, and other programs as needed
- Able to work in Google Sheets for inventory and maintenance tracking responsibilities
Physical Demands / Environmental Factors
Physical Strength and Stamina
Regularly lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects, tools, and materials — including heavy or bulky items. Prolonged standing and walking throughout the facility. Climbing ladders, scaffolding, and other structures to access equipment at elevation. Frequent kneeling, squatting, bending, stooping, twisting, and reaching, often in awkward positions.
Dexterity and Coordination
Proficient use and maintenance of a wide variety of hand tools, power tools, and specialized fabrication and mechanical equipment. Safe operation of forklifts and other company vehicles. Fine motor skills for working with small parts, wiring, and machinery.
Sensory Abilities
Close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment — critical for inspecting equipment, reading gauges, and identifying wiring. Ability to hear and distinguish sounds to identify mechanical issues and communicate with team members.
Exposure to Potential Hazards
Work performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather and temperature conditions. Potential contact with chemicals, fumes, dust, and gases — PPE including respirators, safety glasses, gloves, and protective clothing required. Work regularly performed around moving mechanical parts, high-voltage equipment, and compressed systems; strict adherence to safety procedures is required.
