Flight Platform Engineer
AI Summary
Flight Platform Engineer designs and ensures reliability of UAV flight platforms, integrating hardware, sensors, and telemetry, and troubleshooting in-field issues to enable independent UAV operation.
About this role
At Lendurai, we enable unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to operate independently of global navigation satellite systems and radio control, using computer vision and machine learning. We partner with multiple UAV manufacturers to deliver cost effective capabilities to public sector and defence customers. Our core team has substantial experience in aerospace engineering and developing computer vision applications across Europe, including at companies like Bolt (EE), Open Cosmos (UK), and Starship Technologies (EE).
As a Flight Platform Engineer you will own the practical “make it work in the real world” layer: hardware integration, flight platform reliability, and rapid field iteration. This role is for someone who can independently diagnose and solve integration issues – from wiring and RF troubleshooting to flight tuning and telemetry analysis – and who enjoys turning messy prototypes into dependable systems.
What you will be doing
Integrate compute, sensors, radios, and payloads onto multirotor UAVs; maintain build quality and configuration control.
Solder, wire, and troubleshoot electronics (ESC/FC/power/telemetry) using proper tools.
Design and 3D print integration parts (basic CAD).
Learn new tooling from manuals/specs and apply it independently.
Execute manual/automated test flights; learn to fly quickly if needed.
Diagnose and fix field issues; maintain test and demo units.
Tune PIDs and flight controller parameters for stability and performance.
Capture and analyse logs/telemetry/video; drive root-cause fixes (spreadsheets + scripting).
Design and run experiments; improve test velocity, tooling, and process.
Run safety-first operations: risk reviews, range safety, incident logs.
Plan and fly demos for defence customers; train end users and do light follow-up.
Build working knowledge of RF/EW concepts relevant to UAV ops; stay current with UA/RU technical channels.
We are looking for
Required:
At least bachelor’s degree in mechatronics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, software engineering, aerospace engineering, or similar.
Hands-on experience with precision soldering
Experience using CAD tools (e.g., Autodesk Inventor, Fusion360) to design custom brackets, enclosures, or mechanical interfaces.
Familiarity with basic scripting or command-line tools to parse data logs, flash firmware, or automate basic hardware tests.
Learns from manuals/specs (not ChatGPT/YouTube) and works independently.
Fluent English; EU/NATO passport or clearance-eligible.
Category B driving licence.
Nice to have:
Manual/acro multirotor flight experience.
RF diagnostics experience; familiarity with EW constraints.
Experience operating multirotor or fixed-wing UAVs in manual/guided modes, ideally holding an active A1/A3 or A2 drone license.
B drivers license
Military service history
What we offer
Monthly gross salary €3,000-5,000 based on experience and impact
Ability to influence major technical decisions as an early hire
A focus on outcomes
Freedom of working in nature
Join Lendurai to be part of the forefront of defence technology innovation.
