Job Overview:
Under the direction of the Parks Supervisor, the Grounds & Facilities Technician performs the day to day functions that are required of the Parks & Planning Department. This position will help supervise part-time and seasonal staff.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Manages and executes the implementation of grounds care programs and projects
- Helps supervise the part-time and seasonal staff as needed
- Ensures the correct use of standard practices, methods, tools, materials, and equipment in park maintenance, landscape maintenance, natural areas and construction
- Supports other Departments' programs and needs. Including, but not limited to: field maintenance, field set-up, special event set-up, waste removal, special projects, etc.
- Maintains communications with, but not limited to staff, volunteers, the public and community officials
- Other duties as assigned
Education, Experience & Training:
- High school diploma or GED with 2 or more years’ experience and knowledge in one or more of the following fields preferred: Landscape maintenance, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, mechanical repair, or heavy equipment operation
- Must have extensive knowledge of landscape and grounds maintenance; tools, equipment, and techniques
- Must have extensive knowledge of all athletic field maintenance procedures
- Must be able to read, write, and understand English. Bi-lingual preferred
Skills and Qualifications:
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
- Detailed oriented and accurate
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Must have a valid Illinois state driver’s license
- Be able to obtain and maintain an Illinois Pesticide Operators license
- Ability to obtain and maintain current CPR and AED certification
- Understand and exhibit behavior consistent with stated values of the District
Hours:
April/May through October work days will require 4 Weekdays and 1 day on the Weekend. November through April/May, workdays are Monday through Friday. 40 hours per week. Evenings and weekends will be required based on needs of the District’s operational schedule.

Pay Range:
$20.50-21.50 per hour + DOE
