The HR Generalist in Guatemala is responsible for delivering full-spectrum human resources support, ensuring compliance with local labor laws, and maintaining efficient HR operations. This role partners closely with Operations, Training, Legal, and Payroll to support employee lifecycle processes, enhance employee experience, and drive organizational consistency.

The HR Generalist will play a key role in strengthening HR structure, managing employee relations, supporting recruiting and onboarding processes, and ensuring compliance with Guatemalan labor regulations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Employee Relations & HR Support

  • Manage employee relations matters, including:
    • Medical leave follow-up and documentation validation
    • Employee issue resolution and escalation handling
    • Guidance on sensitive employee situations and terminations
    • Support coaching consistency and documentation standards with leadership
    • Assist in probation process creation, rollout, and tracking
    • Provide day-to-day HR support and respond to employee inquiries
    • Facilitate HR communications and policy updates across the site

    • 2. Recruitment & Onboarding Support

      • Support recruiting efforts by:
        • Assisting with interview processes and leadership participation
        • Manage onboarding administration and logistics:
          • Ensure readiness of access, badges, and onboarding documentation
          • Improve new hire experience and onboarding processes
          • Support onboarding exposure planning across departments

          • 3. HR Administration & Employee Lifecycle Management

            • Prepare and manage employment contracts, including:
              • New hires, promotions, salary changes
              • Registration with the Labor Ministry
              • Maintain employee files and ensure all required documentation is complete
              • Manage termination processes:
                • Conduct notification meetings
                • Ensure proper documentation and offboarding procedures
                • Coordinate final payments (finiquitos) and paperwork
                • Respond to employment verification and bank letter requests
                • Submit new hire payroll data to processor
                • Perform required administrative HR follow-up and documentation tasks

                • 4. Compliance & Regulatory Responsibilities

                  • Ensure compliance with Guatemalan labor laws and internal policies:
                    • Labor Ministry requirements and audits
                    • IGSS validation and reporting support
                    • Annual registrations (e.g., holidays and work schedules)
                    • Coordinate regulatory training requirements (e.g., Ministry of Health / HIV training)
                    • Support Safety Committee initiatives and compliance standards
                    • Partner with Legal on documentation, audits, and requests
                    • Maintain required postings and compliance documentation

                    • 5. HR Operations & Coordination

                      • Track and follow up on HR deliverables and outstanding requests
                      • Ensure strong communication flow between HR, Operations, and leadership
                      • Manage administrative processes such as:
                        • Access requests, badges, and fingerprinting coordination
                        • Assist with drug screening coordination and pre-employment requirements
                        • Support banking partnerships and employee financial communications
                        • Monitor and escalate HR-related process gaps or delays

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred
  • 2–5+ years of HR Generalist experience, in a Guatemala-based operation
  • Strong knowledge of Guatemalan labor laws and compliance requirements (IGSS, Labor Ministry, etc.)
  • Call Center background preferred
  • Experience supporting high-volume hiring and onboarding environments
  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Work Environment & Expectations

  • Onsite role supporting Guatemala operations
  • Standard working hours: typically, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM (flexibility required)
  • High interaction with employees, leadership, and cross-functional teams
  • Requires consistent attendance, reliability, and proactive communication
