Verne has been recently acquired by Ardian and is currently investing massively into new data centre capacity and needs additional people to support this growth. We need self-driven, experienced, motivated and focused new team members, and offer a dynamic, growth-oriented environment for people to shine and learn.


Role Overview:


  1. Mechanical Systems Management:
    • Oversee the design, installation, and maintenance of mechanical systems, including heat pumps, fan walls, chillers, CRAH units, air handlers, and environmental monitoring systems.
    • Ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, and regulations related to mechanical systems and environmental conditions.
    • Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs for mechanical equipment to minimize downtime and maximize reliability.
    • Ensure systems maintenance through 52-week maintenance planner aligned with manufacturer and warranty requirements.
    • Responsible for ensuring all controls on mechanical systems/assets are functioning correctly and in an optimized way.
  2. Environmental Control and Monitoring:
    • Monitor environmental conditions, including temperature, humidity, and air quality, to maintain optimal conditions for IT equipment operation.
    • Implement controls and alarms to detect and respond to deviations from setpoint conditions.
    • Conduct regular inspections and audits to verify proper operation of mechanical systems and environmental controls.
  3. Energy Efficiency and Sustainability:
    • Identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact through optimization of mechanical systems and operations.
    • Implement energy-saving measures, such as variable speed drives, economizers, and free cooling, to minimize energy consumption.
    • Monitor energy usage and implement strategies to optimize mechanical operation while maintaining reliability and performance.
  4. Capacity Planning and Expansion:
    • Assess cooling capacity and demand requirements to support current and future datacenter operations.
    • Collaborate with facilities and engineering teams to plan and execute mechanical infrastructure upgrades and expansions.
    • Ensure scalability and redundancy of mechanical systems to accommodate growth and maintain high availability.
  5. Emergency Preparedness and Response:
    • Develop and maintain emergency response plans for mechanical failures or environmental emergencies.
    • Conduct regular drills and exercises to test emergency procedures and readiness.
    • Coordinate with security and operations teams to ensure a swift and effective response to mechanical emergencies.
  6. Vendor Management and Procurement:
    • Identify and evaluate mechanical equipment vendors and contractors.
    • Negotiate contracts and agreements for procurement of mechanical materials and services.
    • Monitor vendor performance and ensure compliance with service level agreements (SLAs) and quality standards.
  7. Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate documentation of mechanical systems, including schematics, diagrams, and maintenance records.
    • Prepare regular reports on mechanical system performance, maintenance activities, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
    • Communicate effectively with stakeholders and management regarding mechanical infrastructure status and issues.


Key Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC Engineering, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Professional certification or licensure in HVAC engineering or a related discipline (e.g., Professional Engineer license, Supervisor of Pressure Equipment).
  • Several years of experience in HVAC engineering or facilities management, preferably in a datacenter or mission-critical facility environment.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems design, installation, and maintenance practices.
  • Familiarity with industry standards, codes, and regulations related to HVAC systems and environmental conditions.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex cooling and mechanical issues.
  • Leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Proven project management experience, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource management.
