Role Summary
Responsible for inspecting and monitoring rail tunnel construction activities to ensure full compliance with approved drawings, specifications, contract requirements, applicable railway standards, and health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct site inspections of rail tunnel works including excavation, segmental lining, waterproofing, secondary lining, track bed, and associated civil works.
- Monitor contractor activities to ensure compliance with approved method statements, construction sequences, and quality procedures.
- Verify materials, workmanship, equipment installation, and testing activities in accordance with project requirements and rail industry standards.
- Ensure compliance with railway-specific safety requirements, including safe access/egress, permits to work, and tunnel working procedures.
- Maintain detailed daily site records including labour, plant, progress, inspections, test results, and non-conformance reports.
- Review and report on construction progress, quality issues, and site non-conformities to the Resident Engineer (RE) and Assistant Resident Engineer (ARE).
- Assist in verifying tunnel alignment, levels, surveying checks, and as-built documentation.
- Coordinate with contractors, engineers, and client representatives during inspections, testing, and commissioning activities.
- Monitor and witness testing, commissioning, and handover activities, ensuring all required documentation is completed and closed out.
- Support the RE/ARE in resolving site issues and ensuring timely corrective and preventive actions.
- Ensure adherence to project HSE requirements and participate in safety inspections, audits, and toolbox talks.
Experience
- 7–10 years’ experience in construction inspection on major rail infrastructure projects.
- Proven experience in tunnel works within rail, metro, or underground transit projects.
- Strong knowledge of tunnelling methods, segmental lining, rail standards, QA/QC procedures, and HSE requirements in live rail environments.
Qualifications
Diploma or Degree in Civil or Railway Engineering (or equivalent).
