The Lead Estimator is responsible for fostering relationships, developing opportunities in the market and preparing and coordinating complete estimates for assigned heavy/civil projects. This position works closely with the takeoff and purchasing departments, as well as owners, engineers, superintendents, and construction managers.


Main Job Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains relationships with Owners, General Contractors and Construction Managers to provide opportunities for Beaver to compete for projects
  • Represents Beaver at Industry Events in a professional manner
  • Researches and presents new project information to Company Management and Marketing
  • Personnel and helps to track prospective work
  • Presents opportunities to Company Leadership and leads Go / No-Go discussions to determine best fit for pursuits
  • Coordinates with the Safety department to ensure project plans incorporate best practices for job site safety
  • Utilizes plans, specifications, reports, and other documents to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for projects
  • Assists in preparing qualification statements for project bids
  • Ensures all working documents and data is maintained to back up estimates
  • Ensure all project related tasks are completed and submitted by established deadlines
  • Assists project management in developing and implementing project work plans and procedures, working documents and standards to ensure project goals are met
  • Communicates production goals clearly to field supervision
  • Attends ‘Pre-Job’, ‘Mid-Job’, and ‘Post-Job’ meetings and ensures completion of proper documentation
  • Estimates multiple projects at one time and maintains contact with field personnel to handle questions regarding RFIs, change orders, and technically related issues
  • Maintains and tracks historical data including, but not limited to, projected vs. actual hours, material usage, and total pricing and cost
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships both publicly and professionally in and outside of the workplace
  • Responsibilities and tasks outlined in this document are not exhaustive and may change as determined by the needs of the company
  • Participates as a mentor to junior Project Management / Estimating personnel and helps to develop others capacity to support estimating efforts


Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding of industry practices and the impacts of project activities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills
  • Competent use of MS Office and construction software skills
  • Demonstrates respect for coworkers and customers


Travel

  • Ability and willingness to travel overnight as required by project needs


Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent; equivalent field experience will be considered
  • 10 years of estimating experience in construction preferred
