Position Overview
The Low Voltage Engineer / Estimator is responsible for reviewing construction drawings, performing accurate quantity takeoffs, preparing estimates, and producing clear documentation for field technicians. This role requires strong technical expertise in low voltage systems, plan reading, and drawing markupsānot just administrative support. The engineer/estimator will collaborate with project managers, clients, and field teams to ensure precise scope definition, cost control, and successful project execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and interpret architectural, electrical, MEP, and low voltage/security drawings.
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for devices, cable runs, cameras, data drops, and related scope.
- Prepare cost estimates, proposals, and supporting documentation.
- Create floor plan markups, system diagrams, and installation drawings for field technicians.
- Utilize digital takeoff and markup software (Bluebeam, PlanSwift, AutoCAD, Visio, Excel).
- Coordinate with field teams, installers, subcontractors, and site engineers to resolve questions and site condition changes.
- Update drawings and estimates based on change orders, RFIs, addenda, or field modifications.
- Communicate directly with clients to clarify project scope and requirements.
- Organize tasks, drawings, estimates, and open questions independently in a remote work environment.
šÆ Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelorās degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Construction Management, or related field (preferred).
- 3+ years of experience in low voltage estimating, plan reading, and technical project coordination.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Bluebeam, PlanSwift, AutoCAD, Visio, and Excel.
- Strong knowledge of low voltage, electrical, MEP, and auxiliary systems (CCTV, access control, intercom, structured cabling, AV, Wi-Fi, automation).
- Ability to prepare clear floor plan markups, system diagrams, and installation drawings.
- Competence in performing accurate quantity takeoffs and organizing estimates.
