As a Materials Developer I, you are a technical developer focused on seasonal developments ranging across a variety of high-performance materials for all activities. You are grounded in technical knit and woven development and maintain operational excellence. You support the development of best-in-class materials that significantly impact the success of our product. You will learn alongside our industry partners through hands-on experience. Your delivery will be a high-performance toolbox and on-time delivery in the raw materials space, driving our product and our brand forward in alignment with our supply chain goals.

This is a temporary role ending in January 2027 based out of our North Vancouver office. Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada.

The Raw Materials Development (RMD) Team commercializes seasonal performance textiles and trims that exceeds the industry standard. We create toolbox palettes for each product category, made of innovative materials that can ultimately become brand icons for many years to come. Our success comes from our knowledge, our standards of excellence and delivering on-time material solutions, alongside our supply chain partners.

If you were in the Materials Developer 1 role now, here are some of the core activities you would be doing:

  • Delivering high performance materials and technologies for our performance categories
  • Validating technical knit and woven materials according to Design and Raw Materials (RM) Sourcing team’s seasonal briefs; meeting the highest quality standards within alignment to our Supply Chain strategy
  • Supporting textile developers with in-house material testing, tech packs, material status tracking and handover to RM Color and Quality teams
  • Building and maintaining tools and presentation documents to enhance and maintain RMD team efficiency
  • Utilizing your resourcefulness when faced with supply chain limitations
  • Partnering with MD I’s and Coordinators to ideate and realize continuous improvement and automation
  • Communicating RM suppliers on textile construction and finishing, as well as vendor capabilities
  • Communicating clearly and concisely with internal and external partners to shepherd on-time delivery
  • Initiating and driving material development handoffs to suppliers and quality partners
  • Ensuring new developments follow our preferred material guidelines to meet sustainability targets
  • Maintaining organization and accuracy within digital work spaces and Centric PLM
  • Building and strengthening mill partnerships within our supply chain and leveraging capabilities to meet textile specifications
  • Communicating material development status and updates to leadership through various reporting
  • Initiating and informing seasonal wear testing, in partnership with our wear test team within RM pre-season calendar timelines
  • Operating and training on in-house lab equipment to record, compare and inform performance attributes and test results
  • Upholding Fair Labor Association’s Workplace Code of Conduct and Principles of Fair Labor and Responsible Sourcing throughout the Arc’teryx supply chain

  • You have 2 years of industry experience related to materials and trims
  • You have a degree or diploma in Materials Science, Textile Technology, Product or Textile Design, or the equivalent industry experience
  • You have a working knowledge of the design and development process from inception through to final adoption
  • You have an extensive knowledge of trim materials and construction
  • You have a thorough understanding of trims and textile manufacturing, including dying, finishing, printing, molding, etc.
  • You have previous materials laboratory testing experience
  • You effectively balance autonomy and collaboration with multiple teams
  • You partner effectively with diverse networks of internal and external cultures and teams
  • You have strong organizational skills with the ability to balance multiple tasks within tight deadlines
  • You have strong verbal and written communication skills
  • You are proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and PLM systems
  • You have the physical ability to handle small boxes and rolls of fabric, etc.
  • You remain highly flexible and adaptable when faced with ambiguity
