Backup care is needed 1-4 times per month on any day between Monday-Saturday between the hours of 7am-5pm, typically for 4 hours at a time. The client resides at an assisted living facility in Pasadena. The client is diabetic, has a history of a stroke, and may be forgetful at times. She uses a 4lb. cane when walking, and a wheelchair for longer distances which can fit into a standard sized trunk. She wears adult Depends and may require under the arm assistance when standing up (client weighs ~150 lbs). She has a history of seizures and the caregiver will need to assist with checking her insulin levels + sugar should this occur (wears a continuous glucose monitor). The client can administer insulin independently, but it will be helpful if the provider can indicate the right dosage. She has a visual impairment and cannot use her left arm fully as it’s very weak due to her previous stroke. The family can provide at least a week’s notice prior to when backup care is needed. Those applying do not need to be available for all of the family's requests, but should understand that there are no guaranteed weekly hours for this position.

- Schedule: Intermittent care - No guaranteed weekly hours
- Typical needs: Monday-Saturday between 7am-5pm (typically 4 hour shifts)
- Compensation: $30 per hour + parking & gas reimbursement when driving the client
Upcoming days/times care is needed:
- Wednesday, July 1st, 9am-12pm
- Wednesday, July 8th, 9am-12pm
- Tuesday, July 14th, 8am-11am
- Wednesday, July 29th, 8am-12pm
- Wednesday, August 5th, 8:45am-11:45m
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting client with getting in/out of vehicle
- Attending doctor’s appointments with the client (in Pasadena) + taking notes to share with the family (will need to meet the client at the appointment)
- Assisting client with taking/monitoring the client's sugar
- Driving client to doctor’s appointments (outside of Pasadena) along with other outings; furthest distance ~20 miles (provider will need to pick up the client from the assisted living center in Pasadena and transport them to their appointment)
- Engaging with the client with various activities; coloring, puzzles, etc.
- Lifting assistance as needed
- Medication reminders (active list of medications will be provided by the hiring family)
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- 2 years of paid professional caregiving experience
- Legally authorized to work in the U.S.
- CPR certified or willing to become certified
- Ability to provide 2 care-related references from a professional setting
- Able to successfully clear a background and social media screening
- Valid driver’s license, clean driving record & valid auto insurance
- Reliable vehicle to transport client
- Must speak fluent English
Benefits
This position pays $30 per hour, and the family is looking for intermittent care, as needed.
