About this role

Be a part of the initial team to grow and operate a regionally significant new underground mine development that is rapidly becoming the future of the iconic Red Lake gold mining district in Ontario, Canada.

Reporting to the Senior Accountant, the Payroll/AP Coordinator will support the finance team by maintain employee records, calculate pay and benefit entitlements, as well as reconcile vendor statements. The Payroll/AP Coordinator will be locally based and work on a 5/2-4/3 schedule.

The focus of this role will include:

  • Maintain record of employee attendance, leave and overtime
  • Prepare and verify statement of earnings for each employee
  • Prepare employee payments and benefit payments
  • Check and input employee timesheets
  • Complete, verify and process forms and documentation for the administration of health and extended benefits, RRSP etc
  • Prepare annual T4 statements and records of employment
  • Provide information to employees on payroll matters and benefit plans
  • Compile statistical reports, statements and summaries
  • Prepare and balance period end reports
  • Reconcile issued payrolls to bank statements and GLs
  • Review, code, obtain approvals and enter accounts payable documents such as vendor invoices, contractor invoices, expense accounts
  • Facilitate effective payment of invoices and expense claims by using appropriate payment process and ensure that company policy is followed for invoice approval and payment
  • Answer inquiries and provide advice to Madsen Red Lake Mine team members on accounts payable practices and procedures
  • Reconcile vendor statements
  • Assist with month end, quarter end and year end procedures including review of accruals and prepaid
  • Maintain files and documentation
  • Assist with audit inquiries
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills and Experience:

  • Completion of college or other courses in accounting, bookkeeping or payroll administration
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential required to ensure accurate payroll accounting, tax compliance, and regulatory adherence.
  • 3-5 years of payroll and accounting experience
  • Computer literacy with current financial and accounting packages
  • Good organizational skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
