The Planning Coordinator position at the 2034 Organizing Committee will provide a successful candidate with an early-career professional role in supporting the foundational planning processes for the 2034 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. The Committee has responsibility for delivery of the Utah 2034 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, with a vision to elevate our communities, sport, and the Games experience. We are in the early building phase of the organization, with a focus on developing the foundations of Games planning. In this early stage, the Committee will feature a small and lean team that needs to work closely together to maximize its impact. Its team members must be creative and resourceful.

Through hands-on work, you will gain valuable experience in event planning, project management, strategy development, and other areas. This position reports to the Vice President – Operations and Planning and supports team members across the organization.

Key duties

  • Work in a central planning and project management team that facilitates planning for the 2034 Games
  • Work to become a Games expert
  • Support cross-functional integration and coordination
  • Build and maintain relationships with other team members and with external stakeholders
  • Support the development of plans, milestones, data, etc., as part of the Games Plan
  • Support meeting management including arranging meeting facilities, distributing meeting information, coordinating meeting logistics, and taking meeting notes or minutes
  • Conduct research and/or prepare information for development of Games strategies/plans
  • Develop presentations, spreadsheets, and other documents that support Organizing Committee needs using Microsoft Office
  • Handle confidential and/or sensitive information
  • Support projects and events across the Organizing Committee as required.

Required qualifications

  • Current resident of Utah
  • Recent graduate or in the final semester of a degree program at a Utah university, college or trade school; alternatively, an athlete in transition to post-competition careers
  • Skills in Microsoft Office, particularly PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Skill in preparing documents, presentations, and spreadsheets
  • Working knowledge of Teams, Zoom, and other collaboration programs
  • Highly organized with the ability to prioritize and track multiple ongoing tasks
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to thrive in an uncertain and/or changing environment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • High standards of integrity
  • Adaptability to deal with non-routine matters and special projects with minimal instruction and make sound decisions within the scope of authority
  • Willingness to learn

Preferred qualifications

  • Educational focus in project management, business administration, operations management, or similar field
  • 1+ year of previous work experience
  • Demonstrated strong people and analytical skills
  • A passion for Utah and doing good for our communities



Tools, equipment, & conditions

  • Standard office equipment
  • Office environment in a shared/co-working environment (currently hybrid)
  • Prolonged sitting and use of hands/wrists
  • Regular attendance at work is an essential function
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including additional, nontraditional work hours.

Relocation

This role is intended for a recent/current student of a Utah educational institution and therefore relocation assistance is not available.



Work Authorization

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
