About this role
Apogee Global RMS is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to support NSWCPD and NAVSEA engineering, modernization, and HM&E system initiatives. This EM4‑level Key Personnel role provides senior‑level mechanical engineering leadership across shipboard mechanical, electrical, and thermal systems, ensuring technical rigor, integration discipline, and alignment with Navy engineering standards.
The engineer will support system design, testing, integration, documentation, and prototype/tooling upgrades across Navy platforms and land‑based engineering environments.
Core Responsibilities:
- Lead engineering efforts for shipboard mechanical systems, including HM&E system design, integration, and testing
- Support mechanical, electrical, and thermal system design across Navy platforms
- Provide engineering support for machinery systems, machinery integration, and energy conversion systems
- Develop and execute test plans, engineering assessments, and technical evaluations
- Review and develop technical data packages, drawings, specifications, and design documentation
- Support Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs), Ship Change Documents (SCDs), and configuration updates
- Provide engineering support for prototype/test tool integration, site upgrades, and modernization activities
- Coordinate with Government engineers, platform teams, and technical authorities to ensure compliance with NAVSEA and NSWCPD requirements
Requirements
Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering discipline from an ABET‑accredited institution

10+ years of engineering experience, including:
- 7+ years in shipboard mechanical, electrical, and thermal system design and engineering
- Shipboard mechanical systems engineering
- HM&E system design, testing, and integration
- Machinery systems and energy conversion support

Demonstrated experience with technical documentation, drawings, and engineering assessments

Ability to support prototype/test tool integration and site upgrade activities

Eligibility for Government facility/network access; Tier 3 investigation required for DON system access
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Experience with Navy shipboard machinery, machinery silencing, alternate energy systems, or land‑based test sites
- Experience with CAD drawings, technical data packages, and configuration management
- Active DoD clearance (Secret or higher)
