Process Engineer - Power Infrastructure and Datacenters

United StatesRemote

AI Summary

Process Engineer who optimizes power generation process designs and ensures safe, reliable integration of gas turbines, steam turbines, and reciprocating engines for energy and data center projects.

About this role

We’re a team of friends bound together by a mission to preserve our planet for future generations through innovative energy solutions and modern infrastructure. Intersect develops, constructs, and operates the most ambitious power and data center infrastructure in the country by co-locating industrial demand with dedicated gas and renewable power generation.

Intersect was acquired by Google in March 2026 and operates as an independent subsidiary. We are developing and constructing multiple gigawatts of energy and data center projects in the U.S., enabling more data center and generation capacity to come online faster. We’re on an aggressive growth trajectory and looking for people hungry to tackle the largest energy challenges on the planet.

Location & Team Gatherings

Intersect has been a fully flexible workplace since its founding in 2016. We’ve been very intentional about the way we do things. We are not work-from-home, hybrid, or in-office - we are any and all of those options! Deepening social connections and offering shared experiences is a cornerstone of the way we work. We connect as a team at our Team Week experiences four times a year and at our recently established Hub locations - SF Bay Area, NYC Metro Area, NY; Denver, CO; Austin, TX; Calgary, AB; and Toronto, ON.

We are currently looking for candidates located within 60 miles of any of the listed hubs to foster more in-person connections while maintaining our flexible remote culture.

About This Role

As part of Intersect’s Engineering team, you’ll act as a vital technical anchor bridging advanced process design with real-world plant performance across our growing energy portfolio. You’ll help deliver safely engineered, optimized, and highly reliable power generation infrastructure by executing meticulous design reviews, performance benchmarking, and system integration.

Team Overview

Our portfolio spans datacenter implementation to power generation, creating opportunities to tackle complex technical challenges while driving meaningful impact. Joining this team means collaborating across disciplines, influencing high-visibility projects, and growing alongside a rapidly scaling organization.

What You’ll Do

Optimize Process Designs

  • Develop and review comprehensive process designs for power generation systems including gas turbines, steam turbines, and reciprocating engines.

  • Rigorously analyze and validate PFDs, P&IDs, heat and mass balances, and complex equipment sizing calculations.

  • Carry out structured datasheet reviews in strict alignment with industry codes, safety standards, and project parameters.

Drive System Integration & Performance

  • Support seamless system integration covering fuel systems, cooling infrastructure, exhaust networks, and advanced emissions controls.

  • Analyze plant performance data to actively identify operational inefficiencies and unlock meaningful optimization opportunities.

  • Conduct detailed heat rate analysis, efficiency studies, and structural operational benchmarking to maximize reliability.

Ensure Engineering Excellence & Safety

  • Support Front-End Engineering Design (FEED), detailed design phases, commissioning, and diverse multidisciplinary engineering workflows.

  • Establish clear scopes of work, schedules, and technical priorities for critical projects or incoming infrastructure proposals.

  • Participate actively in HAZOP and LOPA studies to inject high-quality safety, operability, and maintainability inputs into all gas-based power plant projects.

What You’ll Bring

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

  • 3 - 5 years of dedicated process engineering experience within power generation facilities or heavy energy systems.

  • Direct, practical experience working with gas turbines, steam turbines, and/or reciprocating engines.

  • Proven proficiency using specialized tools such as Aspen HYSYS, HTRI, EDR, and Bluebeam to execute engineering reviews and modeling.

  • A strong professional understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid systems, and industrial plant utility dynamics.

  • Exposure to industrial plants, utilities, large-scale EPC environments, or heavy infrastructure projects.

  • A safety-first mindset with explicit experience supporting or facilitating HAZOP and LOPA studies.

  • The flexibility to travel up to 20% to attend project meetings, vendor evaluations, and site visits.

  • An aligned personal work style rooted in curiosity and humility, allowing you to collaborate deeply across engineering boundaries.
