We have a dedicated team across New Zealand of operational field force, customer service and business support teams, using the latest technology and high-quality machinery to provide a leading service second to none.


The Role:

As the business evolves into a broader multi-utility provider in the energy sector, the Project Manager plays a pivotal role in leading this transition. This role is responsible for overseeing the planning, delivery, and performance of utility operations—including existing telecommunications infrastructure and emerging energy-related services.

Reporting to the North Island Manager, the Project Manager is accountable for end-to-end service delivery, asset performance, regulatory compliance, contractor management, and commercial outcomes. The role requires a strong operational and commercial mindset, combined with the adaptability to lead through change while seizing growth opportunities in energy and infrastructure.

This position is central to enabling the organisation’s long-term diversification strategy and ensuring operational excellence across legacy and new utility streams.


Key Role Expectations

  • Lead daily operations across services including, drilling, minor civil works, traffic management and connections.
  • Lead project delivery including, subcontractor management, client liaison, ensuring delivery on time and within budget.
  • Drive cost control, budgeting, and margin performance across services, ensuring commercial sustainability and efficiency.
  • Oversee asset performance, maintenance planning, and optimisation of utility infrastructure to support reliability and customer satisfaction.
  • Transitional Leadership from telco to energy, supporting capability development through the team.
  • Build strong relationships with clients, local authorities, energy partners, and network operators to support growth and operational delivery.
  • Providing leadership through continuous feedback and clear expectations while role modelling the Civtec values.



Personal & Professional Attributes

  • Proven experience in an operational management role, ideally within the Utilities industry
  • Extensive operational planning and implementation experience
  • A demonstrated ability to lead and motivate people
  • Analytical in approach, using data to drive decision making and support change
  • Technologically and system savvy, looking to technology to drive efficiency
  • Knowledge of financial control best practices and budget management
  • Strong work ethic, driven by results
  • Confident communicator and team player
  • Good sense of humour



To be successful in this role, we are seeking candidates with:

  • Provide experience in leadership role within the industry.
  • Relevant business management experience and/or business qualification.
  • Civil Engineering Degree is required.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate, drive and hold others to account.
  • A high level of management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Have managed budgets and has knowledge of financial control best practices.
