This person will collaborate with the client’s connectivity engineer (CE), telecommunications / connectivity contractors (TC), the general contractor (GC), equipment vendors and client staff to validate newly installed telecommunications and fiber / copper network systems, including those in mission critical data center facilities. Monitor daily construction activities and provide timely status reports on project scheduling, Change Order management, contractor conformance to the Quality Control Plan, and Submittal/RFI responses.

The QA/QC Field Technician III will receive general instructions on routine work and detailed instructions on new projects or assignments. May serve as lead on routine projects of limited scope.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Assist in Performing On-site Inspection, Validation, and Verification of Connectivity Infrastructure (65%)

  • Monitor daily telecommunications / connectivity contractor (TC) and general contractor (GC) activities, performing continuous independent visual inspection and observation of all connectivity-related work.
  • Conduct inspections throughout project stages, including underground utility / pathway, rough-in, cabling, termination and splicing, and punch list phases.
  • Collaborate with the connectivity engineer (CE), clients, trade contractors, and craftsmen to address coordination issues and installation challenges.
  • Attend and contribute to QA/QC and construction team meetings.
  • Inspect Owner Furnished, Contractor Installed (OFCI) equipment and materials, both offsite and onsite, and support Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) tracking.
  • Evaluate subcontractors’ capabilities in meeting quality requirements. Ensure all trade contractors are following their approved QA/QC plans and do not build upon or conceal non-conforming work.
  • Ensure all connectivity work — pathways, structured cabling, fiber and copper, and network systems — is installed in accordance with project documents, project specifications (including Divisions 01, 07 and 27), applicable codes, standards, and best work practices.
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures. Complete a daily pre-task plan (PTP) and confirm site adherence to the general contractor’s and client’s HSE requirements during project activities.

Assist in Developing Inspection and Network Audit Verification Plans (15%)

  • Coordinate with the CE and GC/TC to review and align on a finalized list and schedule of all required QAQC inspections across the project lifecycle.
  • Prepare and execute QAQC inspection checklists, providing the final response to all review questions and obtaining the required sign-offs from the CE and GC/TC.
  • Support network audit readiness by verifying contractor pre-audit submittals (quality inspection acceptance, crew and communication plan, communication protocol, and owner-directed procedures), then capture quality data to confirm compliance with established standards or identify deviations and create a plan of action.

Assist in Reviewing Construction Related Design Documents, Drawings and Specifications (15%)

  • Review shop drawings and submittals; support the CE by confirming all project submittals are approved and spot-checking materials and product data on-site against approved submittals.
  • Verify the contractor’s test equipment is correct, certified, calibrated, approved, and in compliance prior to and during testing activities; support witness-testing spot checks as requested.
  • Identify and track key network milestones (e.g., cabling start, circuits delivered, network rack install, CorpNet / Security / FacNet ready and live, Network Substantial Completion and Final Completion) and adherence to the project schedule.
  • Assist the Project QA/QC Manager with a monthly audit reconciling current project specifications (inclusive of change orders) against what the contractor has on hand, and verify fiber and copper test results report the correct pass / loss values per specification. Help manage end-to-end inspection documentation in the client’s quality management platform (e.g., Autodesk Construction Cloud), maintaining control of drawings, specifications, test and inspection reports, vendor data and red-lined as-built drawings.

Reporting (5%)

  • Support delivery of a comprehensive Weekly QA/QC Status Report (issued each Friday) summarizing planned and completed activities and current on-site assessment status, with meeting minutes, a lessons-learned matrix, analytics dashboards, a prioritized and color-coded issues log, and past-due items.
  • Log and manage all deficiencies as issues in the client’s quality management platform, tracking each until satisfactory resolution is confirmed, and maintain accurate documentation of inspections, cable test reports, and checklists so that contract obligations for testing and record keeping are met.
  • Facilitate root cause analysis for site-level non-conformance reports and drive continuous improvement and best practices.
  • Monitor the disposition of all issued non-conformance reports.
  • Review and verify field-related closeout documentation — red-lined as-builts, butterfly diagrams, splice path records, QA/QC checklists and issues, and cable test reports — and support delivery of the Final Project QA/QC Closeout Report.
  • Monitor the progress and effectiveness of the project quality management system. Recommend and implement improvements as approved.
