About this role
About Magic
Magic is a leading modern outsourcing platform that connects SMBs to high-quality remote workers, from SDRs to virtual assistants and more. With roots in Silicon Valley and backing from top venture capitalists, our workers are supercharged with a combination of the latest AI technology and training. We came out of Y Combinator in 2015, have grown to 1,000+ remote workers, and are backed by Sequoia Capital with over $30M in funding.
Background
Our company came out of Y Combinator in 2015. Since then we've grown to 1000+ remote workers, with strong venture-backing (including Sequoia Capital) and over $30M in funding to date. We are fully remote across Asia and US time zones.
Every client Magic serves depends on being matched with the right assistant — and that match only happens because someone made a smart, well-informed call on candidate readiness. That someone is you. As a Recruitment Associate (Matcher), you are the final quality checkpoint before a candidate meets a client. You're not just screening — you're making judgment calls that directly affect client satisfaction and Magic's reputation. When you get it right, clients stay. When clients stay, Magic grows. This role exists because quality placements don't happen by accident — they happen because someone owns the process end to end.

What Winning Looks Like
You consistently endorse candidates who meet client expectations — your placement quality score reflects your judgment, not just your effort
You complete your daily interview targets without sacrificing the accuracy of your evaluation reports
You catch candidate readiness issues before they reach the client — you flag concerns proactively, not after the fact
Your evaluation reports are structured, concise, and client-ready — the hiring manager can make a decision from your summary alone without needing edits
You show up with the same level of energy and engagement in your sixth interview as your first
After a difficult call or a mistake, you're back to full capacity within minutes — not hours
Who This Role Is NOT For
You are not available for shifting schedules including nights, evenings, or days — schedules are assigned based on business needs and are not self-selected
You have low natural energy — this role requires sustained enthusiasm across 4–6 consecutive interviews every single shift
You take days to recover emotionally from a difficult conversation or a mistake — this role requires quick reset and forward momentum
You're proud of how fast you work, not how accurately — this role rewards precision over speed, every time
You need constant supervision to stay on task — this role requires genuine independence and self-direction
You don't have a professional home office setup right now with reliable internet (25+ Mbps) and a quiet environment for confidential interviews
You treat daily targets as optional — performance expectations are real from Day 1
You've held multiple roles for under a year — we're looking for someone building a career, not collecting experience
You see feedback as personal criticism rather than part of learning
You are currently freelancing as a VA/EA and plan to keep those clients — exclusivity is non-negotiable
Key Responsibilities
Work toward daily and monthly targets with consistency, support different recruitment teams as needed, and apply feedback quickly to improve over time.
Finding the Right People
Look through Magic's existing pool of potential hires to find good matches for what clients need — no external sourcing required
Keep a backup list ready in case your first choices don't work out
Interviewing Candidates
Set up interview times that work for everyone
Conduct final interviews before candidates meet clients
Decide if they're ready and a good fit — this is your call
Coordinating with Your Team
Pass candidate information to Sales, Support, and Customer Success teams
Ensure smooth handoffs so everyone has what they need
Writing Reports
Write clear, detailed reports about each candidate
Make sure your reports give clients everything they need to make a hiring decision
Meeting Your Targets
Work toward monthly goals and daily deadlines
Ensure all recommendations meet Magic's quality standards
Being Flexible
Help other recruitment teams when needed
Adjust to changing priorities throughout your shift
Learn different parts of the hiring process over time
The Reality
Every shift you'll handle 4–6 candidate interviews — while managing real-time scheduling requests and team coordination, and running ATS, HubSpot, and Magic systems simultaneously. The result of getting this right is direct: client satisfaction goes up, candidates succeed, and Magic grows.
Schedules are assigned based on businessneeds and may include night, evening, or day hours — make sure you've seriously considered your availability for any shift before applying. You will feel overwhelmed in Month 1 — that's normal. What separates people who succeed is the willingness to learn fast, reset quickly, and ask good questions.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
Bachelor's degree (any field) or equivalent work experience
Excellent English — strong speaking, writing, and structured communication for client-facing outputs
Strong attention to detail — your reports directly affect client hiring decisions
Full availability for assigned shifts — schedules may include nights (9 PM–6 AM or 10 PM–7 AM PHT), evenings (2 PM–10 PM PHT), or days (8 AM–5 PM or 9 AM–6 PM PHT), Monday–Friday or Tuesday–Saturday, with advance notice for changes
Reliable home office: computer, headset, video conferencing setup, quiet environment, 25+ Mbps internet with backup
Demonstrated ability to commit — we look for people who finish what they start
Your Superpowers
Sustained Energy — you show up with the same enthusiasm in your sixth interview as your first; this is not a low-energy role
Precision Over Speed — you take pride in getting it exactly right; accuracy over volume, every time
Emotional Reset — after a tough conversation or a mistake, you're back to full capacity within minutes
Ownership — you take responsibility for your work and fix mistakes without being told twice
Learning Agility — you absorb feedback fast, apply it immediately, and get measurably better with every shift
People Instinct — you enjoy talking to candidates and have a natural sense for readiness and fit
Figure It Out Mentality — when your plan stops working, you find another way; outcomes over effort
Before You Apply — Ask Yourself
Am I genuinely available for any assigned shift — nights, evenings, or days — not just the schedule I prefer?
Do I have a professional home office setup with reliable internet right now — not "almost ready"?
Am I the kind of person who takes pride in precision and accuracy, not just speed?
Can I reset quickly after a difficult conversation and bring full energy to the next one?
Can I commit exclusively to Magic — no other VA/EA clients during training or production?
Am I ready to start within a few weeks — no major transitions or life events blocking me?
If you answered yes to all six — we want to hear from you. If you answered "maybe" or "I'll figure it out" to any of them — the timing might not be right yet, and that's okay.
