REPORTS TO:School-Based Supervisor
STATUS:Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY:
The School-Based Therapist provides mental health and/or substance use services, education, consultation, and prevention support to students in school settings. This role includes assessment, treatment, and crisis intervention services to support student well-being and success.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide direct mental health and/or substance use services, including but not limited to intake assessments, individual, family, and group counseling, crisis intervention, and prevention services.
- Develop and maintain treatment plans, treatment plan updates, psychotherapy notes, and all required clinical documentation in a timely manner.
- Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, clinical consultations, IEP meetings, and other meetings as required.
- Collect and track mental health/substance use data and student outcomes to support program evaluation and effectiveness.
- Identify and coordinate appropriate family and community resources for treatment, support, and/or placement.
- Provide crisis assessment and intervention services, including availability outside of standard business hours when required.
- Support student reintegration following hospitalization or residential placement, including development and implementation of re-entry plans.
- Maintain knowledge of school disciplinary policies, at-risk student indicators, referral processes, and special education regulations; assist with related processes as appropriate.
- Foster effective communication and collaboration with students, families, school personnel, and community partners.
- Conduct family-based interventions as clinically indicated; encourage caregiver involvement in treatment planning.
- Assist families in accessing and utilizing community resources and coordinate care among providers to support treatment goals.
- Maintain flexibility to work adjusted schedules, including evenings and weekends, as needed to meet client needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and current auto insurance (travel required).
- Adherence to professional ethics, confidentiality standards, and all applicable regulations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, or a related human services field.
- Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience preferred.
- Must hold or be eligible to obtain Nebraska licensure (LMHP, LCSW, LIMHP, or LICSW).
