About this role
About Humble Robotics
Working at Humble Robotics means taking on the biggest change in ground transportation in decades. We’re building an autonomous, zero-emissions hauler that dramatically lowers the cost of freight with groundbreaking vision-based AI, designed for today’s global logistics network.
We’re a fast-moving, close-knit team of AV industry veterans and builders. We don’t believe culture can be engineered – but when it falls into place, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime adventure.
Progress has never felt so present.
Position Overview
The Senior Chassis Engineer owns the architecture, design, and delivery of chassis systems for our autonomous heavy-duty electric vehicle platform. This is a high-impact role responsible for safety-critical systems - including suspension, steering, braking, and structural integration - that directly determine vehicle performance and autonomy readiness.
You will drive decisions from first principles, operate with high autonomy, and take systems from concept through production. This role requires strong technical depth, hands-on execution, and the ability to move quickly in an ambiguous, hardware-first startup environment.
Key Responsibilities
Own end-to-end development of chassis systems including suspension, steering, braking, and structural components
Define chassis architecture and key design tradeoffs for performance, durability, and manufacturability
Lead integration of drive-by-wire systems (steer-by-wire, brake-by-wire) into the vehicle platform
Perform and guide system level analysis (FEA, kinematics, dynamics, durability) to validate designs under real-world conditions
Drive vehicle-level performance through close collaboration with autonomy, controls, and electrical teams
Lead validation strategy and execution, including lab, track, and field testing
Rapidly iterate through prototype builds - debugging and resolving issues on hardware
Own supplier technical relationships, including component design, validation, and cost/performance tradeoffs
Identify high-risk areas early and drive mitigation through design and testing
Set engineering standards, review designs, and raise the technical bar across the team
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
5+ years of experience in chassis, suspension, or vehicle systems engineering
Deep understanding of vehicle dynamics, suspension geometry, and chassis system design
Proven track record of delivering hardware from concept through validation
Strong experience with CAD (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, NX) and analysis tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus, Adams)
Hands-on experience building, testing, and debugging physical systems
Ability to operate independently and make high-quality engineering decisions under uncertainty
Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills
Eligible to work in the United States
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with heavy duty trucks or off-highway vehicles
Experience with electric vehicle platforms and high-voltage integration
Experience with drive-by-wire or safety critical systems
Familiarity with automotive standards (e.g., ISO 26262, FMVSS, SAE)
Experience scaling designs from prototype to production
Experience working in fast-paced startup or product development environments
