Senior Java Developer

This is a Hybrid role working from our Sofia office 2 days a week

As a Senior Java Developer, you will do so much more than just write code; you will be a vital technical mentor, a collaborator, and a guardian of software quality. In this role, you will report to the Lead Developer and impact our projects across several key areas:

• Architectural Delivery: Designing and delivering end-to-end backend subsystems while ensuring code remains modular, maintainable, and scalable.

• Quality & Security: Act as a champion for software excellence by conducting thoughtful peer reviews and applying defensive measures for robust application security.

• Technical Guidance: Shaping our testing strategies across unit and service levels while introducing innovative industry ideas to the practice.

• Consulting & Communication: Translating complex technical trade-offs into clear, inclusive language for clients and stakeholders, presenting confident product demonstrations.

• Mentorship & Practice Growth: Nurturing the growth of junior colleagues through supportive coaching , while contributing lessons learned to Waracle’s collective body of knowledge.

• Delivery Accountability: Thoughtfully evaluating the trade-offs between speed and quality, taking collaborative ownership of successful feature delivery.

Requirements

What You’ll Bring

We welcome diverse perspectives and recognise that great developers come from a variety of backgrounds. For this role, we are looking for:

• 3+ years of experience working with Java.

• Deep expertise in backend architectures, specifically with microservices and event-based systems.

• A strong understanding of industry-standard security (OWASP) and compliance (such as GDPR or SOC2).

• Proven capability in optimising application performance, including query tuning, caching, and threading.

• A collaborative approach to testing, with the ability to guide testing strategies across multiple levels.

• Excellent communication skills, with a passion for mentoring others and building an inclusive engineering culture.
