We are currently offering an exciting opportunity for a Senior Researcher to join our Study Management team at our Bloemfontein site. This position is ideally suited to motivated and enthusiastic individuals seeking to advance their research careers while contributing to innovative research that improves animal health.
Primary Job Purpose
To independently manage and execute GLP/GCP-regulated research studies by applying advanced scientific, technical, and regulatory knowledge. To ensure study accuracy, data integrity, and animal welfare while contributing to the continuous improvement of study management processes and providing guidance to technical and junior scientific staff.
Job Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Participate in day-to-day research activities such as dose preparation, administration, observations, sample collection, and other related research tasks to ensure safe and successful study practices
- Act as Study Director/Investigator on a speciality of GCP, GLP and non-standard studies by taking full responsibility for study start-up, conduct and close-out, including Sponsor communication for delivering efficient and high-quality research in line with compliance and timelines
- Develop, validate and execute novel study models to high-quality in line with compliance and timelines
- Quality control of raw data
- Maintain and optimise animal health and wellbeing
- Clinical assistance to Veterinarians and perform Para-Veterinary tasks according to SAVC rules (if SAVC registered)
- Management, handling and storage of scheduled/unscheduled veterinary products (if SAVC registered)
- Maintain assigned laboratory spaces and equipment in good working order and cleanliness
- Review and compile controlled documents as needed
- Provide mentorship and specialist training to research and technical staff
Qualification and Experience requirements
- MSc in Biological Science (preferably Entomology or Zoology or Parasitology), or
- BVSc, or
- PhD in a relevant field, and
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a research/related role
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Specialisation in Entomology, Parasitology, or Zoology is considered highly beneficial
- Experience in the CRO (Contract Research Organization) industry will be an advantage
Additional Information
- Laboratory/research environment with strict access and biosafety controls
- Interact with and handle animals
- Flexibility to work outside regular hours when necessary or as per departmental schedule
- Valid driver’s license required
