Smart Contract Engineer / Spell Crafting - Dewiz

Dewiz is an Ecosystem Actor within the Sky Ecosystem (formerly MakerDAO), one of the most battle-tested and capitalized ecosystems in DeFi, historically responsible for pioneering decentralized stablecoins (DAI) and managing billions in on-chain liquidity. As part of Sky’s Endgame architecture, the ecosystem is evolving into a network of specialized, autonomous actors, each responsible for specific verticals such as governance, risk, growth, and protocol execution.

Dewiz sits at the core of protocol execution, you can think of it as:

• The team responsible for shipping and upgrading core smart contract logic

• The interface between governance decisions and on-chain implementation

• A high-trust execution layer, ensuring changes to the protocol are secure, efficient, and aligned with the system’s long-term design

Why This Role Exists

As Sky continues to scale and evolve its architecture (collateral systems, vault mechanics, governance primitives, and new financial instruments), there is an increasing need for:

• Highly secure smart contract development

• Efficient execution of governance-approved upgrades ("Spells")

• Protocol-level innovation across DeFi primitives

This role sits within the Spell Crafting team, responsible for designing, implementing, and deploying the smart contracts that directly shape the evolution of the protocol.

What You’ll Work On

Smart Contract Engineering

• Design, implement, and deploy Solidity-based smart contracts powering core protocol functionality

• Build and execute governance “Spells” that modify system parameters and logic

Protocol Design & Evolution

• Collaborate with ecosystem actors (risk, governance, product) to define new mechanisms

• Contribute to the architecture of lending, collateralization, and stablecoin systems

Security & Reliability

• Conduct deep audits of smart contracts and protocol changes

• Identify and mitigate vulnerabilities (reentrancy, oracle manipulation, etc.)

• Maintain production-grade reliability for contracts managing billions in TVL

Performance & Gas Optimization

• Optimize contract execution paths for efficiency at scale

• Balance cost, complexity, and security trade-offs

System Integration

• Integrate contracts with frontends, off-chain systems, and governance tooling

• Work closely with tooling around execution pipelines and monitoring

Architecture & Systems Thinking

• Contribute to broader system design decisions across the Sky ecosystem

• Ensure coherence between protocol layers (governance → execution → state transitions)

Research & Innovation

• Stay ahead of emerging standards (ERCs, account abstraction, new DeFi primitives)

• Explore new mechanisms for capital efficiency, risk management, and automation

Requirements

• Deep expertise in Solidity and the EVM

• Strong understanding of DeFi primitives (lending, AMMs, collateral systems, stablecoins)

• Proven experience with smart contract security and auditing

• Hands-on experience with gas optimization and performance tuning

• Familiarity with tools such as Foundry, Hardhat, Remix, Ganache

Engineering Mindset

• Ability to reason about complex financial systems

• Strong ownership and ability to operate in high-autonomy environments

• Experience collaborating across distributed / async teams

Testing & Quality

• Experience writing robust unit + integration tests

• Familiarity with frameworks like Mocha, Chai, or Foundry equivalents

Communication

• Clear communicator with the ability to articulate technical trade-offs

• Comfortable working in a pseudonymous, remote-first environment

Bonus Points

• Contributions to open-source DeFi or protocol-level projects

• Experience with multi-chain ecosystems (Solana, Cosmos, etc.)

• Exposure to zero-knowledge systems (ZK-rollups, zk-SNARKs)

• Previous experience working within a DAO or decentralized org

• Familiarity with MakerDAO / Sky architecture (MCD, DSS, governance flows)
