The “Underground Fixed & Electrical Maintenance Supervisor” ensures that all planned and unplanned activities for Underground Fixed Maintenance and Electrical systems are properly executed in a safe and efficient manner.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Review and direct technicians on all scheduled / unscheduled repair activities, ensuring safe / efficient execution.
  • Discuss upcoming schedules and plans with peers
  • Coordinate with the operations supervisors / dispatcher for all scheduled activities. Ensure the sequencing matches the schedule as developed.
  • Assign and distribute the work order packets which include appropriate standard job plans, to the technicians.
  • Spend at minimum, 80% of time on “visible felt leadership” interacting with the technicians and service contractors.
  • Attend morning meetings to communicate current machine status & priority, unplanned sick leave, parts issues, required schedule changes and uncompleted work orders requiring rescheduling.
  • Proactive and positive interaction with Technicians – supporting and executing safety / reliability improvements to the equipment.
  • Develop crew support for other continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Execute quality control and quality assurance checks on all work.
  • Mentor and coach technicians to adequately perform their duties in a professional and productive manner.

Key Result Areas & Measures:

  • Excellent and demonstrated commitment to safety & health, interacting with maintenance personnel to ensure activities are completed without compromise to the safety and health of all personnel.
  • Reduce TRI (total recordable injuries) by 15% (including contractors) from previous year.
  • Focus on “visible felt leadership” spending at minimum 80% of time interacting with the technicians and contractors.
  • Ensure key performance measures are actively reviewed with the technicians targeting the fleet availability.
  • Positive and enthusiastic team member, seeking to assist and mentor others.
  • Rigorous and thorough management for completing scheduled activities to minimize the production impact of the equipment being down for maintenance activities.
  • Actively and constructively communicate opportunities for improvement / development to technicians consistently updating individuals as to their current job performance.
  • Maintain rigorous housekeeping habits of all maintenance shop facilities.
  • Maintain daily maintenance shift reports, area inspections, payroll records, planned general inspections, dispatch reporting data and employee evaluations.
  • Maintain good working relationships with key vendors / manufacturers such as Sandvik, Normet, Blanchard (Cat), Fastenal etc.
  • Provide technical support and training to the heavy repair technicians.

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs, talk, hear, and see.
  • Must be able to work shift work with 12-hour shifts.
  • Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) during the workday.
  • Work is in a surface mine plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity.
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine environment, including hart hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves, and any other protective equipment as required.

Qualifications

 

  • 5 to 10 years technical experience in the maintenance industry, preferably in fixed assets and underground electrical systems.
  • Mechanical trade or Bachelor qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Driver’s license or ability to competently operate a motor vehicle.

Desirable:

  • 2 years’ experience as a supervisor or an equivalent supervisory position
  • Direct practical experience working with underground heavy equipment.
  • Graduate diploma or Bachelor qualification in Mechanical Engineering.

Skills:

  • MS Office Suite (MS Excel, MS Word, MS Project, MS Outlook)
  • Pronto operating platform experience
