Roles and Responsibilities:

Including but not limited to the list below.

  • Maintain survey equipment through regular cleaning and calibration.
  • Record data including field as-built measurements, layout points, and topographic points.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports, maps, and drawings using AutoDesk, TBC, Carlson, and Microsoft products.
  • Assist and coordinate with Survey Tech II and Tech III staff on departmental work assignments.
  • Promote a culture of safety and awareness by practicing and enforcing safe work procedures.
  • Learn and apply survey field measurement and layout techniques.
  • Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by supervisors.


Skills and Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required. Any vocational training is strongly desired.
  • Those with an education and/or work-related credential from a secondary or post-secondary educational system will be given preferred interview status (Precision Exams, NOCTE, etc.).
  • Capable of obtaining a 14 CFR Part 107 Remote Pilot Certification.
  • Capable of obtaining MSHA 24-Hour New Miner Training certification.
  • Capable of learning to operate Whitaker sUAS systems and software including Wingtra II, DJI M300, DJI Mavic 3E, Pix4D Mapper, Pix4D Matic, and Pix4D Survey.
  • Ability to learn and become proficient with survey and grade control software including Siteworks, Trimble Access, GCS900, Earthworks, X-Pad, and SCS900.
  • Ability to learn and operate GNSS receivers including Trimble models SPS855, SPS986, R70, and repeaters.
  • Ability to learn and operate Trimble SPS930 and SX12 Total Station/Scanners.
  • Ability to learn image processing software for generating accurate orthorectified imagery and surface models using Pix4Dmatic, Pix4DMapper, and Global Mapper.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to become familiar with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to get to and from work.


Physical Requirements:

  • Able and willing to work long hours including day, night, and weekend shifts as needed, and work outside of normal hours.
  • Able to walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel, crouch, and lift up to 50 pounds frequently.
  • Able to work in outside environments being subjected to weather changes, noise, vibrations, and job hazards.
  • Able to climb on and off heavy mobile equipment safely.
  • Maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities of the construction site, including the activities of other employees and contractors and the operation of equipment.
