Diversified Services Network, Inc. (DSN) is seeking a full-time Thermal Systems Simulation Engineer to join our team in Mossville, IL! We offer full benefits, PTO, 401k, and more! If you have a strong foundation in thermo-sciences and a passion for applying simulation tools to solve real-world cooling challenges across engine and electrification platforms within an extremely reputable, stable Fortune 500 company — let’s talk!

Position Overview

We are seeking a Thermal Systems Simulation Engineer to develop and validate cooling systems used in construction, mining, power generation, marine, and locomotive applications — spanning both internal combustion engines and battery electric systems — fully on-site in Mossville, IL. Using 1-D and 3-D simulation tools, you will provide simulation support for electrification projects across various platforms and perform cooling performance simulation for diesel-powered applications. This role requires strong collaboration with design, system, and validation partners to deliver validated solutions against challenging program timelines.

Key Contributions & Responsibilities

  • Conduct application-specific cooling system analysis; develop cooling system layouts and optimize cooling air and water systems using 1-D simulation tools for up-front system sizing and component selection.
  • Perform high-end Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation for virtual design and validation — including component CFD to determine performance characteristics of heat exchangers, pumps, radiators, and aftercoolers.
  • Develop CFD models to understand airflow through cooling packages and underhood thermal models to predict component temperatures.
  • Collaborate with design partners to meet technical and regulatory requirements; correlate analysis models with test engineers to validate simulation accuracy.
  • Perform analysis to assist in resolving cooling-related field problems; determine root causes of issues and communicate design improvement recommendations to product development teams.
  • Help establish technical requirements and specifications for new products; contribute to continuous improvements in simulation methods and processes.

Team Structure & Work Environment

  • You will collaborate closely with design, system, and validation partners across multiple product development teams, managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • This is a fully on-site role in Mossville, IL.

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Agricultural, Aerospace Engineering, or a similar field required; Mechanical, Agricultural, or Aerospace preferred. Experience requirements: 2+ years with a Bachelor’s degree; 1+ year with a Master’s degree; or a Doctorate degree.
  • At least 1 year of engineering experience focused on cooling system performance for product development, with 1-D and/or CFD simulation experience.

Required Technical Skills

  • Strong background in thermo-sciences — coursework or applied experience in fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer.

Desired Technical Skills

  • 1-D or 3-D cooling component or system analysis experience; experience using 1-D tools such as GT-Suite.
  • Proficiency with CFD tools such as Fluent, Star CCM+, or OpenFOAM; proficiency with meshing tools such as ANSA or ANSYS Workbench/SpaceClaim.
  • Experience using CAD packages such as Creo.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, C++, or Java.
  • Working knowledge of diesel engines, powertrain cooling, lubrication systems, and/or electrification systems.
  • Knowledge of product development processes for machines, engines, and battery/electric systems.

Required Soft Skills

  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills — able to convey technical information clearly to team members, process partners, and stakeholders.
  • Strong project management skills — able to handle multiple concurrent projects and shifting priorities effectively.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment across design, test, and program teams.
