Toolkit Tutors works with NYCDOE schools to provide structured, high-impact tutoring that helps students build confidence, master content, and ace their exams. Our tutors work across all subjects and grade levels, with a focus on small-group and one-on-one instruction.

What sets Toolkit apart is that our tutors don't just teach content: they also coach students in personal organization and study skills so they can become self-sufficient learners.

As a tutor, you'll work part-time (2-3 days per week, 4-6 hours per day), with tutoring taking place during the school day at the school site. Each day you will see 4-5 groups of students, with groups never exceeding 4 students at a time. We provide all the curriculum and materials you'll need to run a great tutoring session.

Pay starts at $31/hr, with more experienced or bilingual tutors earning up to $35/hr.

Responsibilities

  • Provide structured tutoring in small groups or one-on-one settings
  • Support students in core subject areas (e.g., Algebra I, ELA, Biology, Global History, depending on the placement)
  • Integrate study skills strategies (organization, time management, test prep)
  • Take daily attendance and communicate professionally with school staff
  • Contribute to student progress tracking and reporting

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (completed or in progress with strong academic performance)
  • At least one year of teaching, tutoring, or youth mentoring experience preferred
  • Strong content knowledge in your subject area(s)
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to engage students effectively
  • Reliable, punctual, and committed to student success
  • Ability to commute to assigned NYC schools
  • DOE fingerprint clearance strongly preferred
