Academic Advisor

Position Summary

The Academic Advisor serves as a member of the first-year advising team, helping students to articulate their academic goals and develop meaningful educational plans. The Academic Advisor will advise approximately a caseload of 150 undergraduate students on a wide range of academic issues, facilitating individual and group sessions throughout the academic year. In addition, the Academic Advisor works with departmental advisors and other university offices to increase student retention. The Academic Advisor will also assist with the hiring, training, and supervision of students.

Qualifications

Required Education:Bachelor's Degree Counseling, Student Personnel Development, Education or a related fieldPreferred Education:Master's Degree Higher Education Administration, Psychology, Social Work or related areaRequired Experience:2+ years related experience in an educational settingPreferred Experience:2+ years Administrator in a higher education setting. Experience with academic support programs is preferred.Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Strong interpersonal, analytical, organizational, and customer-service skills. Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Knowledge of PeopleSoft and Student Development theories is a plus. Ability to work as an integral member of a team is critical. Experience working with databases.

Additional Information

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $77,000 to USD $84,700. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
