Job Description

Statutory/Reinsurance Accountant

The Statutory/Reinsurance Accountant supports quarterly and annual statutory reporting, reinsurance accounting, reconciliations, financial statement preparation, and related compliance activities. This role requires strong analytical capabilities, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal business partners, auditors, and regulatory stakeholders. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple deadlines while maintaining a high standard of accuracy.

What you will do:

  • Prepare and maintain Schedule F reinsurance reporting for all writing companies.
  • Report and reconcile reinsurance balances with affiliated companies.
  • Prepare quarterly journal entries, as needed.
  • Support the preparation of quarterly and annual statutory financial statements, including footnote disclosures, exhibits, and schedules for NAIC and state filings in partnership with the Statutory Reporting team.
  • Prepare general ledger and subject premium/reinsurance reconciliations, ensuring appropriate documentation and support in compliance with SOX requirements.
  • Analyze fluctuations in balance sheet and profit and loss (P&L) accounts and clearly communicate significant variances.
  • Assist with the preparation of audited financial statements and coordinate requests with internal and external auditors.
  • Support compliance with internal audit requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflows, enhance reporting efficiency, and support process optimization through automation and AI-enabled solutions.
  • Complete ad hoc projects and analysis in a timely, accurate and professional manner.

What you will bring to C&F:

  • Basic understanding of GAAP and/or IFRS; knowledge of reinsurance and Statutory Accounting Principles preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret financial data and identify meaningful trends or variances.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain complex financial information clearly to a variety of audiences.
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams.
  • Support special projects and other accounting-related assignments as needed.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; advanced degree or CPA preferred.
  • 1–2 years of accounting or financial reporting experience preferred.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply new software tools and systems.

Salary ranges are available for all positions at this location, taking into account roles with a comparable level of responsibility and impact in the relevant labor market and these salary ranges are regularly reviewed and adjusted in accordance with prevailing market conditions. The annualized base pay for the advertised position, located in the specified area, ranges from a minimum of $56,200.00 to a maximum of $82,400.00. The actual compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to the market pay for the jobs at each level, the responsibilities and skills required for each job, and the employee’s contribution (performance) in that role. To be considered within market range, a salary is at or above the minimum of the range. You may also have the opportunity to participate in discretionary equity (stock) based compensation and/or performance-based variable pay programs.
