About the opportunity
In the position of an AI Engineer (f/m/d) you will work with our system and software teams to develop instrument control and data analysis software for laboratory devices helping our customers to get valuable insights from a biological sample. You use your expertise building real-world AI agent systems to work in an environment where AI agents support the development of medical-grade software. In this role you will set the blueprint for AI-enabled software engineering across QIAGEN, changing how our developers, testers, architects and DevOps engineers work every day.
Your tasks include
- Design and build multi-agent workflows that automate software development lifecycle processes, from planning and design through implementation, testing and documentation.
- Translate the knowledge of our teams, including architecture decisions, domain models and business rules, into reusable, machine-readable building blocks that AI agents can work with reliably.
- Build evaluation loops that measure the quality and correctness of AI-generated outputs against the standards of a regulated environment, and continuously improve them.
- Integrate AI agents with the tools our teams rely on every day, as well as to our instruments and software products using MCP servers, Git, CI/CD pipelines and REST APIs.
- Serve as lead AI engineer, guiding and mentoring junior engineers and colleagues across the development team in adopting agentic AI in their daily work.
- Collaborate with international development teams in Poland, Spain, and Denmark to strengthen and refine your technical capabilities and personal network.
Your profile
- A master's degree in computer science, software engineering, information systems or a related discipline
- 3+ years of professional experience in software and product development, including the successful delivery of complex software solutions in agile environments
- Strong software engineering skills, especially in Python or a comparable backend language and working knowledge of Git, CI/CD pipelines and containerization
- Experience building AI agents, agentic systems or LLM-based applications, including evaluating, testing and validating AI-generated outputs
- Hands-on experience building MCP servers or clients and integrating AI agents with other systems through APIs. Knowledge of the Model Hardware Standard (MHS) that allow AI agents to monitor and operate hardware through a common interface is a plus.
- Regular use of AI-assisted development tools in your daily work, such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Copilot
- Excellent communication skills in both English and German (C1 level)
