AI Summary

Builds production LLM applications for a data migration platform, designing prompts and integrating hosted LLM APIs to generate SQL and mappings that are reviewed, approved, and reused at scale.

About this role

AI Engineer (temporary contract)

About You

You are an AI Developer who turns large language models into reliable, production-ready data logic. You will join the team building a migration platform, where an LLM proposes SQL and mappings, a person reviews and approves them, and the approved logic is reused at scale. Your focus will be the reverse direction of the sync, taking changes made in the target platform back into each source system, along with the rules that classify and resolve the records that fail to sync.

Note: This position is offered under a 6-month contractor framework, with the possibility of extension.

You Bring to Applaudo the Following Competencies:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field is desired, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 3+ years of software development experience with Python and software engineering best practices.
  • Advanced SQL skills working with PostgreSQL, MySQL, and cloud data warehouses such as BigQuery.
  • 1+ year of experience building LLM applications that run in production, beyond prototypes.
  • Experience integrating hosted LLM APIs into production environments, including structured output and its validation.
  • Experience with prompt engineering, prompt versioning, fallback strategies, and cost and latency optimization.
  • Experience evaluating LLM output with test cases and clear evaluation methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and modify a partially documented codebase that you did not write.
  • Demonstrated use of AI tools in your daily workflow, with an explicit step to verify what they produce.
  • Strong autonomy, attention to detail, and comfort with ambiguity as requirements evolve.
  • Advanced English fluency.

Nice to haves:

  • Experience in data migration or ETL projects.
  • Experience with Vertex AI or Gemini.
  • Experience extracting data from spreadsheets or documents.
  • Experience with MLOps practices, including CI/CD, observability, and reproducible pipelines.

You Will Be Accountable for the Following Responsibilities:

  • Prepare the context for each migration process, including functional documentation, source schema, and target data model, so the LLM generates accurate mappings in both directions.
  • Design and tune the prompts the LLM uses to propose queries, mappings, and transformation rules, reducing rework during human review.
  • Review generated SQL and mappings against both data models, validating entities, fields, relationships, and constraints.
  • Resolve cases the LLM does not handle reliably, such as identifiers that change format between systems or data that conflicts with a constraint, while keeping the constraint in place.
  • Build parameterized queries that detect what changed on each side since the last sync, including sources that are not databases, such as spreadsheets and document folders.
  • Work with the Senior Python Developer on safeguards for LLM-generated SQL, enabling controlled and approved writes to source systems.
  • Automatically classify records that fail to sync by root cause, including conflicts where the same data changed on both sides, and turn each treatment into an approved rule.
  • Automate repetitive migration preparation tasks, such as loading inputs, generating artifacts, and comparing artifact versions.
  • Version every approved artifact together with the inputs that produced it, and document the preparation procedure so other teams can reuse it.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience with Python, plus advanced SQL on PostgreSQL, MySQL, and BigQuery
  • Production LLM applications experience, including hosted LLM API integration, structured output, and validation
  • Prompt engineering and versioning, fallback strategies, cost and latency optimization, and LLM evaluation methodologies
