About this role

Cornerstone Detention Products is hiring an Assistant Project Engineer for our Construction Division.

You’ll own the submittal process for your projects: preparing, checking and coordinating the approval packages that turn contract drawings and specs into approved, fabrication-ready materials. You’ll work closely with project managers, architects, customers, suppliers and subcontractors, and you’ll help build the kind of partnerships that keep Cornerstone at the top of architects’ approved supplier lists.

What You’ll Do

  • Prepare job-specific approval submittals that show our proposed products and installation methods clearly and accurately
  • Develop hardware, furniture, accessory and glass schedules, plus hardware templates and keying packages
  • Review supplier and subcontractor drawings for accuracy and spec compliance before they go to the customer
  • Create and review RFIs to clarify the architect’s intent and assess cost and schedule impacts
  • Keep submittal logs current and keep the PM updated on status so submissions go out on time
  • Generate bills of materials, confirm quantities against estimate take-offs
  • Assist change order documentation and make sure the work meets code
  • Produce engineering and special drawings in AutoCAD
  • Pull together O&M manuals, warranties, as-builts and other closeout documents

What You Bring

Required:

  • High school diploma
  • 2+ years of construction project engineering experience
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications
  • Strong computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, internet)
  • Clear written and verbal communication, with strong organizational and time management skills

Preferred:

  • Associate degree in Engineering or Drafting, or ongoing coursework in construction engineering
  • 4+ years of construction project engineering experience
  • AutoCAD (or similar) drafting skills
  • Working knowledge of detention equipment and door hardware
  • Experience with procurement and submittal preparation

Work Environment

  • Nonsmoking office environment, with vehicle and air travel as needed
  • Long periods of sitting and computer work, plus occasionally lifting up to 30 lbs
