Associate Site Medical Director

Where Clinical Practice Meets Leadership

The Associate Site Medical Director offers a unique opportunity to continue practicing medicine while developing as a clinical leader. Working in close partnership with the Site Medical Director, you will help strengthen clinical quality, support and mentor providers, and contribute to an exceptional experience for both patients and care teams.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership & Provider Development

As Associate Site Medical Director, you will partner closely with the Site Medical Director to support providers, strengthen clinical teams, and advance exceptional patient care.

• Partner with the Site Medical Director to mentor, coach, and support physicians and advanced practice providers.
• Participate in the recruitment, selection, onboarding, development, and retention of medical providers and key clinical staff.
• Help create an environment where providers feel supported, engaged, and empowered to deliver excellent care.
• Participate in provider performance reviews, coaching, and professional development.
• Support effective communication and collaboration across medical, nursing, behavioral health, and operational teams.
• Lead or support provider meetings, clinical education, training, and interdisciplinary initiatives.
• Represent the clinical team on appropriate internal committees and in community partnerships.

Quality, Operations & Patient Experience

• Partner with clinical and operational leadership to advance quality, access, patient safety, and operational excellence.
• Support implementation of site-level strategic priorities, clinical workflows, and patient access initiatives.
• Champion quality improvement, risk management, and patient safety programs.
• Promote adherence to evidence-based clinical standards, organizational policies, and established workflows.
• Support compliance with applicable HRSA, CMS, Joint Commission, and other regulatory requirements.
• Identify opportunities to continually improve the patient and provider experience.

Clinical Practice

Continue doing what brought you to medicine while expanding your impact as a clinical leader.

• Provide high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centered primary care within your area of specialty and clinical privileges.
• Manage preventive, acute, and chronic healthcare needs for an assigned patient panel.
• Provide clinical consultation, mentorship, and support to advanced practice providers as appropriate.
• Participate in quality management and peer review activities.
• Contribute clinical expertise to program development and improvements in care delivery.
• Help foster a culture centered on clinical excellence, teamwork, compassion, and continuous improvement.

Scheduling & Specialty-Specific Responsibilities

• Participate in limited weekend coverage, with a minimum of three 4-hour Saturday shifts per calendar year.
• Family Medicine/Internal Medicine: Participate in after-hours coverage for critical adult patient laboratory results for a minimum of two weeks per year.
• Pediatrics: Opportunity to participate in pediatric inpatient hospital rounds based on organizational need and physician interest.

Supervisory Responsibilities

In partnership with the Site Medical Director:

• Support the recruitment, selection, and successful onboarding of medical providers and key clinical staff.
• Mentor and support providers through training, professional development, and ongoing coaching.
• Help establish clear performance expectations and provide timely, constructive feedback.
• Support performance evaluation and provider development initiatives.
• Promote a safe, respectful, collaborative, and compliant work environment consistent with Marin Community Clinics' policies and procedures.

Qualifications

We are looking for an experienced primary care provider who is passionate about excellent patient care, mentorship, collaboration, and developing as a clinical leader.

Required Qualifications

• M.D., D.O., N.P., or P.A. degree from an accredited institution.
• Current and unrestricted California professional license appropriate to discipline.
• Current DEA registration, as applicable to the position and scope of practice.
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in an applicable primary care specialty, where applicable.
• Minimum of three years of primary care experience.
• Current BLS certification.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and support clinical teams and address challenges constructively.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build strong, collaborative relationships.
• Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and trauma-informed care principles.
• Ability to effectively use electronic health records and other healthcare technology systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a community health center or Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) environment.
• Familiarity with managed care, quality improvement, patient safety, and healthcare regulatory requirements.
• Experience or familiarity with requirements associated with HRSA, FTCA, CMS, CDPH, DHCS, and The Joint Commission.
• Experience with Epic or a similar electronic health record platform.
• Bilingual Spanish/English skills are a plus.
