Associate Veterinarian, Part Time

About the role

Under the supervision of the Director of Medical and Behavior Services and the Lead Veterinarian the Pets In Need (PIN) Associate Veterinarian is responsible for providing high-quality medical care to public owned animals seen through our Community Veterinary Clinic (CVC). The CVC is intended to be an affordable wellness care option for the public that offers annual wellness exams, vaccinations, preventative care, treatment of minor acute health conditions (i.e. skin and/or ear infections), heartworm blood testing, senior blood screens, urinalysis and other basic diagnostics as needed. In addition, the Pets In Need Associate Veterinarian may be asked to develop, advance, and implement protocols, collaborate with the Lead Veterinarian and Director of Medical and Behavior Services to ensure the humane medical treatment of all animals. This role is scheduled every other Thursday from 7:30am to 6:00pm at our Redwood City location. Compensation ranges from $90/hr to $100/hr and is negotiable based upon experience.

What you'll do

Contributes tomedical care and health management programs for PetsInNeed’s shelter guests, including those temporarily in foster care, focusing on identification, treatment and prevention of health problems thereby increasing adoptions and decreasing adoption returns.

• Performs physical examinations on public owned animalsvia the CVCwith an incremental wellness care approach,providesclient consultation and medical advice to clients, makes assessments using SOAP format, creates list of differentials, diagnoses,prescribes laboratory testswhenindicated, treatments and preventatives, and provides client follow up as needed.

• Consultswith Director ofMedical and Behavior Servicesto ensurePINfollowsstate and federal lawsregardingon siteveterinary medicine.

• Maintainsaccurateand complete medical recordsin the shelter database (treatments, exams, test results,surgeries,and outcomes) and other records required by local and state laws.

• Provides staff mentoring and coachingfor support staff asappropriate.

• Performs other job duties asrequired.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree. Threeyears of experience working as a veterinarianpreferred.

• AValid DEA licenseandState license to practice in the profession.

• Small animal experiencerequired.

• Knowledge ofChameleondesired.

• Demonstrated ability using Microsoft Office suite.

• Successful people management and operational business acumen in a veterinary practice setting.

• Previousexperience in the safe andhumanehandling of animals. Fear-free experience is a plus.

• Previousexperience working in a highly collaborative environment withcross-functional management team.

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain medical terms and conditions using simple language.

• Knowledge ofanesthesia procedures.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Perform desk-based computer tasks.

• Frequently sitting.

• Stand/walk, reach/work above shoulders, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, use a telephone, sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 50 pounds.

• Twist/bend/stoop/squat, kneel/crawl.

• Physically strong and dexterous, and ability to stand for extended periods.

• Must be able to bend and kneel repeatedly.

• Must havegoodrange of motion injointsespecially wrist, knees,back for twisting,and elbows.
