Basketball Referee Founded in 1997, Think Together partners with schools to change the odds for kids by providing award-winning programs during and outside the school day. We’re one of California’s largest nonprofits working in school districts from San Diego to San Francisco. JOB SUMMARY:

Officiate assigned school basketball matches in a safe, fair, and professional manner while applying applicable volleyball rules consistently and promoting sportsmanship and a positive environment for students, coaches, staff, and spectators.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Officiate assigned basketball matches and enforce official basketball rules.
• Make fair and consistent calls throughout each match.
• Communicate decisions clearly and professionally with students, coaches, staff, and spectators.
• Promote sportsmanship and safe, respectful conduct during matches.
• Arrive on time and prepared for scheduled assignments.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

KEY COMPETENCIES, QUALITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Working knowledge of official basketballl rules and officiating procedures.
• Consistent attendance, punctuality, reliability, and impartiality.
• Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with students, coaches, staff, and spectators.
• Ability to remain calm and make timely, fair, and impartial decisions in a competitive environment.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Previous basketball referee or officiating experience required.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Must pass Live Scan, a criminal background check completed through fingerprinting.
• Provide documentation of satisfactory tuberculosis clearance as required.
• Reliable transportation is required to meet the needs of the position.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

KNOWLEDGE OF:

• Rules and procedures applicable to assigned basketball matches.
• Basic safety practices for school athletic environments. ABILITY TO:
• Understand and apply applicable rules and procedures.
• Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
• Remain professional and impartial during basketball matches.
• Perform the essential functions of the position.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

ENVIRONMENT:

• Indoor/outdoor school athletic environment.
• Moderate to high noise associated with basketball matches. PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
• Seeing and hearing to monitor match activity and communicate calls.
• Standing, walking, and moving for extended periods of time.
• Lifting or moving objects, normally not exceeding thirty (30) pounds.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

• Must be available for assigned match schedules.
