BMS, Smart Technology and Controls Supervisor

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out planned and reactive electrical maintenance across University properties.
• Undertake electrical testing and inspection in accordance with BS7671 requirements.
• Maintain and test emergency lighting, fire alarm and generator systems.
• Diagnose and repair electrical faults, control systems, motors, pumps and HVAC-related equipment.
• Carry out electrical installations, modifications and upgrades.
• Support the operation and maintenance of the University's electrical distribution infrastructure.
• Assist with Portable Appliance Testing (PAT).
• Supervise and coordinate specialist contractors working on University sites.
• Support colleagues by sharing technical knowledge and best practice.
• Respond promptly to breakdowns and emergencies to minimise disruption.
• Ensure all works are completed in accordance with health and safety requirements and safe systems of work.
• Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with University stakeholders regarding maintenance activities.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

• Qualified electrician with relevant electrical apprenticeship, NVQ or equivalent qualification.
• Relevant qualification in BMS/Controls, ideally Trend
• Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Experience in planned and reactive maintenance environments.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
• Good understanding of electrical safety legislation and safe systems of work.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads effectively.
• Competent IT skills for record keeping and communication.
• Positive, proactive and customer-focused approach.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Experience of generators, educational estates or listed buildings would be advantageous
