BOM Configuration Specialist / Engineer

Location: Fremont, CA (On-site)

Position Summary

Pivotal Systems is seeking a BOM Configuration Specialist / Engineer to create and maintain accurate product structures across Engineering, Manufacturing, Sales, and global production sites.

This role will translate customer and engineering requirements into complete, buildable multi-level BOMs and maintain product, part, and configuration data within our PLM and ERP systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and maintain complex multi-level engineering and manufacturing BOMs (eBOM / mBOM).
  
• Translate customer specifications, sales orders, and product options into accurate, buildable configurations.
  
• Create and maintain part numbers, item attributes, units of measure, and make/buy designations.
  
• Implement approved ECOs and ensure BOMs remain accurate through product changes.
  
• Enter, upload, validate, and maintain BOM and item data in PLM and ERP systems, including bulk updates.
  
• Ensure engineering BOMs translate correctly into manufacturing BOMs, routings, and work orders.
  
• Support product configuration rules and configure-to-order processes.
  
• Perform where-used, BOM comparison, gap analysis, and data validation to identify errors before production.
  
• Partner with Engineering to interpret drawings, specifications, assemblies, and product architecture.
  
• Work with Sales, Program Management, Planning, Purchasing, and global manufacturing sites to resolve BOM and configuration issues.
  
• Support cost BOM accuracy in partnership with Finance and Operations.
  
• Maintain BOM standards and ensure consistent product structures across sites and systems.
  

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  
• 3+ years of experience working with complex multi-level BOMs in engineering, manufacturing, NPI, or configuration management.
  
• Experience creating and maintaining BOMs in PLM and/or ERP systems.
  
• Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, assembly structures, and technical specifications.
  
• Working knowledge of eBOM/ mBOM structures, part masters, revision control, and ECO processes.
  
• Strong Excel and data management skills, including large data sets, imports, comparisons, and validation.
  
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
  
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Global Shop Solutions ERP or comparable manufacturing ERP.
  
• Experience with product configurators or configure-to-order products.
  
• Semiconductor capital equipment, gas delivery, or precision electromechanical manufacturing experience.
  
• Familiarity with SOLIDWORKS, AutoCAD, or similar CAD tools, including BOM extraction.
  
• Experience supporting international manufacturing sites or contract manufacturers.
