Business Analyst, Curriculum

• $126,306 – $140,543 per annum (HEW Level 8), plus 17% superannuation and annual leave loading

Macquarie University is transforming how it designs, delivers and assures the quality of its coursework suite. Sitting within the Curriculum Quality Unit in the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education) portfolio, this position places you at the point where curriculum policy, education systems, data and day-to-day faculty practice meet.

As a Business Analyst, Curriculum, you will work within the PVCE portfolio, faculties and business teams to surface needs, examine processes and data, and translate what you find into practical solutions that improve services, efficiency and decision-making. You will produce clear documentation, facilitate stakeholder engagement and help ensure solutions align with strategy, governance and risk requirements.

About the Role

Reporting to the Curriculum Manager, you will develop and modify processes, systems and practices that can affect University-wide projects and improvement initiatives. Your responsibilities will include:

• Eliciting, examining and validating business needs, pain points and opportunities through workshops, interviews, process observation and data review.
• Mapping current and future processes, capabilities and customer journeys, and identifying gaps, risks and dependencies.
• Defining problem statements, benefits and success measures to inform prioritisation and business cases.
• Translating needs into clear business, functional and non-functional requirements with acceptance criteria and end-to-end traceability.
• Engaging stakeholders to build alignment, balance competing priorities, and communicate recommendations and artefacts.
• Assisting delivery through design clarification, solution option assessment, testing and UAT, go-live readiness, and change and training inputs, while meeting governance and compliance obligations across privacy, information management and security.
• Reviewing system data, configurations and workflows to identify issues, trends and opportunities for optimisation or standardisation across curriculum and education systems.
• Providing subject-matter input into system enhancements, integrations and upgrades, in line with enterprise architecture, governance and strategic priorities.
• Contributing curriculum analysis and knowledge of curriculum policy and practice, including impact analysis of proposed curriculum changes and oversight of teach-out arrangements and transitional provisions, in partnership with faculties.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) portfolio is responsible for Macquarie's academic mission: the planning, quality and delivery of education for our undergraduate and graduate students, academic standards, student experience, and the governance frameworks behind learning and teaching.

Within the portfolio, the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education) oversees education across the student journey, from pathways and access through to curriculum development and graduate outcomes. The Curriculum Quality Unit supports this work by applying the Curriculum Lifecycle Framework to maintain the quality of the University’s coursework programs.

Joining the team means playing a direct role in improving curriculum and strengthening the systems and data the University uses to understand and demonstrate the quality of its education.

About You

You are an experienced business analyst who reads complexity well: you can see how systems, data, processes and people fit together, and you can explain what you find in language that makes sense to everyone in the room. You are comfortable moving between detailed requirements work and bigger-picture advice, and you bring a methodical, evidence-based approach to improving how things work.

Selection Criteria

• A tertiary qualification in a relevant field (e.g. Information Systems, Education Technology, Business Analysis) or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience, with a demonstrated interest in ongoing professional development.
• Extensive relevant experience as an analyst in a complex environment, preferably an educational setting, with insight into how systems, data and processes interact.
• Knowledge of curriculum management systems, enterprise platforms or other complex business systems, including experience across process mapping, data interpretation, business intelligence and system optimisation.
• Proficiency with tools (e.g. Jira/Confluence, Miro, Visio, Excel/Power BI) and the ability to turn data and system behaviour into clear insights and recommendations.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret data, validate information, identify trends or issues, and apply insights to decision-making, prioritisation and solution design.
• Well-developed verbal, written and stakeholder communication skills, including facilitating workshops, balancing competing priorities and conveying complex information to audiences with varying levels of technical knowledge.
• Knowledge of higher education policy and legislation, and familiarity with educational systems and platforms. (Highly Desirable).
