About this role
ROLE OVERVIEW
We’re looking for someone who is willing to get out into the market, meet people, and create new opportunities for Frogslayer.
This is a field-first business development role focused on identifying the right companies, getting in front of the right people, and creating enough interest to start a real conversation.
A meaningful part of your job will be spent out in the field. You will be given a target industry and geography and expected to research the area, identify the companies that fit, call on them, and help fill our pipeline with qualified opportunities.
That means walking into businesses, introducing yourself, explaining Frogslayer, leaving behind relevant materials, identifying the right decision-maker, and creating an opening for a follow-up conversation.
You’ll also use phone and email follow-up to build on those in-person interactions and keep promising conversations moving.
Initially, your job is not to sell an engagement from start to finish. Your job is to create qualified opportunities for the revenue team. Over time, the right person could grow into a much broader sales role.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
1. Develop Target Markets
You’ll help Frogslayer identify and pursue businesses within specific industries and geographic markets.
Initially, we’ll provide significant guidance on where to focus and what a good clients looks like. Fairly quickly, we’ll expect you to become capable of doing much of that work yourself.
You’ll:
- Research specific industries, cities, and local markets
- Identify businesses that fit Frogslayer’s target criteria
- Determine likely decision-makers
- Own and maintain your own target account and visit lists
- Plan efficient field activity across a geographic area
- Learn from what is working and refine where you spend your time
You should be comfortable taking a broad direction like “focus on machine shops in this area” and turning it into an actionable prospecting plan.
2. Get in Front of Business Owners and Leaders
This is the core of the role.
You’ll spend a meaningful amount of your time physically visiting businesses within our target markets.
That may include:
- Cold outreach to warm up a particular market
- Driving to businesses throughout Bryan-College Station and surrounding markets
- Walking into businesses without a scheduled meeting
- Introducing yourself and Frogslayer
- Leaving behind one-pagers or other relevant materials
- Identifying who the right decision-maker is
- Finding ways to create an introduction or future conversation
- Learning enough from each interaction to determine the next best step
You do not need to walk in and conduct a full sales conversation.
Early on, success may simply mean finding the right person, making a credible introduction, creating interest, and earning the opportunity for Frogslayer to continue the conversation.
3. Create Qualified Leads
The primary outcome of this role is generating qualified leads and opportunities for Frogslayer.
For this role, a qualified lead generally means:
- The business fits the type of company we are aiming to serve
- You have identified and reached the right decision-maker(s)
- That person has a legitimate interest in having a conversation with Frogslayer
You do not need to diagnose the company’s business problems before handing the opportunity off.
The VP of Revenue will initially handle the discovery call, deeper sales conversations, solution development, proposals, and closing process.
Your job is to consistently create good opportunities for those conversations to happen.
4. Follow Up and Keep Conversations Moving
Field activity is the starting point, but it will not be the only way you work.
You’ll also spend time:
- Calling people you met in the field
- Following up by email
- Checking back in with businesses where the timing was not right
- Reaching out to decision-makers you identified but did not meet in person
- Following up on introductions and referrals
- Inviting prospects into relevant conversations, events, or other opportunities to engage with Frogslayer
- Keeping track of next steps so promising leads do not get lost
This is a field-first role, but strong follow-up is what turns field activity into actual opportunities.
5. Learn to Represent Frogslayer Well
You do not need to come into this role with a software development background.
You do need to become fluent in what Frogslayer does.
We will help teach you our services, how we work, the kinds of businesses we help, and the types of problems we are equipped to solve.
Over time, we expect you to be able to explain Frogslayer clearly and credibly in plain language.
You should be able to talk about:
- The types of services Frogslayer offers
- How we help businesses improve workflows and operations
- Where automation and AI may create value
- The kinds of situations where custom software may make sense
