The Carpenter -  Boat Builder is responsible for carrying out carpentry work related to the construction, repair, refurbishment, and maintenance of Fiber boats, and other wooden vessels. The role involves measuring, cutting, shaping, assembling, fitting, and finishing timber and marine-grade materials to construct and repair boat components such as hulls, frames, ribs, decks, cabins, flooring, seating, doors, panels, and other wooden fittings. The Carpenter – Boat Builder will also identify damaged or deteriorated components, perform necessary repairs and replacements, and support new boat-building and refurbishment projects. The position requires hands-on knowledge of Fiber or Wooden Boats construction and marine carpentry techniques, safe operation of woodworking tools and machinery, and proper handling of marine-grade materials, adhesives, sealants, and finishes. The role is expected to maintain high standards of workmanship, safety, cleanliness, and proper care of tools and equipment while working closely with the Workshop/Boat Project team to complete projects within the required timelines.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3–5 years of practical carpentry experience, preferably in boat/Dhoni construction and repair in the Maldives.
• Proven experience in the construction, renovation, and maintenance of traditional Maldivian Dhonis and other wooden vessels.
• Good knowledge of marine carpentry, wooden boat structures, framing, decking, hull construction, and finishing work.
• Ability to read and understand measurements, drawings, templates, and basic construction specifications.
• Skilled in using hand tools, power tools, woodworking machinery, and marine carpentry equipment.
• Knowledge of different types of timber, plywood, marine-grade materials, adhesives, sealants, and protective coatings.
• Experience in wood cutting, shaping, joining, fitting, sanding, polishing, and finishing.
• Knowledge of basic fiberglass/FRP work would be an added advantage.
• Previous experience working in a Maldives resort, shipyard, boatyard, or Dhoni-building environment is highly preferred.
• Physically fit and capable of working outdoors, onboard vessels, and in workshop environments.
• Good understanding of workplace safety and proper PPE requirements.
• Able to work independently as well as part of a boat-building/project team.
