Purpose
Under general supervision, the Clinical Genomic Analyst will support clinical testing by performing essential data analysis, variant interpretation and reporting functions. Assists with the validation of new applications in the clinical laboratory. Recognizes the clinical significance of each test performed, maintains the confidential and sensitive nature of patient information and results, and assists with reporting results within established time frames. Must be based in the midwest to facilitate travel to Chicago and the lab as needed.
Primary Functions
Interpret somatic and cfDNA sequence variants from patient samples to determine their clinical significance
Evaluate variant function, potential clinical impact and genotype-phenotype relationships using scientific literature and available genomic tools
Write clear, communicable reports based on test results
Perform quality control of variant and clinical analysis, interpretations and completed reports
Troubleshoot dynamic and spontaneous issues related to job function
Assist in resolution of technical problems in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures.
Assist in the development, evaluation, and implementation of new procedures and protocols.
Performs general duties such as maintaining safety records and always adhering to compliance in line with established protocols
Review and revise SOPs as needed or as requested by supervisor
Maintains effective communication within the department and with other internal and external clinical and research professionals.
Maintain a positive attitude when faced with challenges
Knowledge – Skills – Abilities
Must have a minimum of 1 year of understanding or working with genomic variant interpretation
Strong foundations in molecular genetic technology principles
Excellent written and verbal communications skills
Work successfully in a multidisciplinary team environment
Prior experience in regulated laboratory environment (e.g. CLIA, CAP) is preferred
