Qualified candidates must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate major

Current California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license (ASCP preferred)

At least two (2) years of recent experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist/ Medical Technologist in a clinical laboratory setting

Availability to work Saturdays as needed

Capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance

Follow safety and infection control practices

Must pass any applicable agency qualifying exam(s)

Open to working in Long Beach, CA

About the position:

Abortion patients are cared for at each of our health centers, and in part through the administrative, support, and other non-clinical services provided at all PPLA locations, and by all PPLA employees. Supporting these critical services is an essential job duty, and a fundamental responsibility of all employees and contractors.

Perform laboratory testing in compliance with PPLA policies, Federal and state licensing (CLIA and OSHA). Perform necessary duties to fulfill all testing requirements, from pre-analytical to analytical and post-analytical phases in a timely fashion

Perform DNA amplification tests

Report results to PPLA clinics

Answer phones, look up results, enter orders and results in LIS, answer clinic questions as capable and appropriate or refer questions to Laboratory Supervisor as needed

Assist Laboratory Supervisor to maintain adequate records for quality assurance, quality control, proficiency testing, and other statistical data

Perform proficiency testing with strict adherence to CLIA guidelines (proficiency tests are treated no differently than patient samples)

Follow corrective action procedures and documentation policies according to the Quality Assurance Plan

Maintain inventory of all lab supplies and reagents

Complete required morbidity reporting

Prepare solutions and reagents according to standards and policy and procedures

Participate in quality management/quality control efforts
