Department Overview

The Department of Psychiatry is recruiting for a Clinical Research Assistant for the HEALthy Brain and Child Development (HBCD) study.

Function/Duties of Position

The HEALthy Brain and Child Development (HBCD) Study at OHSU is conducting studies with pregnant people and their children in the areas of neurodevelopment, behavior, learning, environmental factors, substance exposure, and cognitive functioning under the direction of Principle Investigators, Alice Graham, Ph.D. and Elinor Sullivan, Ph.D. We have an opening for an energetic and highly motivated full-time Clinical Research Assistant. Duties for this complex study will include consenting participants, visit coordination, and running data collection visits with participants. Data collection will focus on behavioral assessments of infant and early childhood development, electroencephalograms (EEG) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with infants and young children, biological sample collection and questionnaire measures . Duties include preparing, processing, and cleaning materials needed for each research visit, filing, copying, data processing and other general duties in support of the goals of the study. The candidate will also attend weekly laboratory staff meetings with the PIs and senior staff members.

Essential qualifications include multi-tasking, dependability, attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced, timely manner. Skilled at oral, email, and written communication. Previous experience working with pregnant people, infants, or young children as well as experience conducting behavioral assessments, MRIs and/or EEGs is desired. Intermediate computer experience with Word and Excel is preferred. Interest in mental health, health care, and substance use treatment desired. Data collection occurs frequently during the evening and on weekends so the candidate will be required to perform weekend and evening work to complete the study’s goals.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree with major courses in field of research, OR Assoicate’s AND 2 years of relevant experience, OR 3 years of relevant experience OR Equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Previous experience working with infants and young children.
  • Basic computer and office related skills. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Very strong organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or major studies in Psychology or Biology or a related field.
  • Previous experience working in a research setting, and/or with EEG, MRI or behavioral assessments is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills preferred.
  • Knowledge about infant and child development and/or human subjects research preferred.
